Let's make a thread of the programs that have sent thank yous to applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got a thank-you email and encouragement to ask more questions from Indiana U's program director, and St. Vincent's (Indianapolis, not NYC) sent me a Christmas card. Actually, both of these Indianapolis programs were almost overwhelming in how nice they were to applicants and how much attention they gave. Hell, at St. Vincent, they only interview one or two candidates a day so they can make sure they get to know each candidate as a person. (they manage this by only interviewing ~70 people for their 12 spots) Say what you will about the south, I'll stand by our midwest hospitality (I'm originally a Hoosier).

Haven't had any other interviews (well, except Temple... silly Temple...), but I don't expect similar treatment from more high-profile programs, certainly.

Got a thank you letter from St. Vincent's in Manhattan

Has anybody gotten any post-interview correspondence from Mayo-Rochester?

Hey, did you like the program? I am interviewing there in a few weeks.

I thought Mayo was fantastic, I was very impressed and will rank it highly. Everyone there was nice, I did not detect any flaws whatsoever in their training program. My personal situation is such that I wouldn't mind living in Rochester though, and I don't know if I'd go there were I single. I could get into specifics, but overall I simply left there with that "good feeling" about the program that is so vital. We can certainly compare nuts and bolts between these programs, but in the end whatever feels best will be the kicker for me.

thank you letter from U michigan

Thank yous from Vanderbilt and Wake Forest

One from the PD who interviewed me at Brown, wishing me well and saying he hoped I would continue to consider Brown. Nice, as this is one of my top choices! 😎

I got one from OHSU and my boyfriend got one from Colorado. We're couples matching, and I heard nothing from Colorado and he nothing from OHSU. I don't know what to think of it.

Easy: somebody fell in love with you at these places. Sneaky committees...

got letters from both my interviewers at colorado. i guess i must have bullsh*tted well that day.

honestly, i don't think that we should put too much stock into getting thank you letters or a little extra personal attention from a program. i don't mean to put a damper on things, but i've heard a lot of horror stories about people thinking that they would match at certain programs because of such things, and they were unpleasantly surprised on match day.

on the flip side, i know plenty of people who matched at programs that didn't seem to go the extra mile for them on their interview days.

i guess i just don't think that it matters too much one way or the other.

Anyone get thank yous from Southwestern? I was hoping to hear from them.....

Got one from the PD at Dartmouth this eve, likely due to the fact that I recently sent my interviewer at Dartmouth a thank you note. The PD at DHMC is SO nice and really cares about the residents, were it not for my being currently single and my family living in Boston, I would rank this program much higher.

Got a really nice letter from upenn today (didn't expect it so soon). It was actually personalized and hand written! Probably doesnt mean all that much but it still felt good. Got letters from LIJ, St. Lukes - Roosevelt (also really personal... nice details), no one else yet....but i havent sent out any thank yous.... i guess i should start...

Best of luck to all.

got 2 snail mail notes from Lahey, one from the PD, another from one of my interviewers. apparently, they "remain very interested in your candidacy...invite you to make a second visit." very nice of them and appreciated.

handwritten thankyou's from both interviewers at UVa-Roanoke.

anyone hear from BU and/or UMass post-interview? I'm almost afraid to ask as I have not heard a peep from either program since I interviewed.

Received from: Wake forest, Southwestern, Case Western, VCU, Cedars-Sinai

Anyone hear from Duke or Wash U?

Did anyone hear from UTMB, UCSD or UCLA-VA? Do they usually send letters?

Got a thank you email from the chief resident at UTMB and she reiterated the strengths of the program, etc.

Got a Christmas card from the IM program at Kentucky that was signed by their residents.

Haven't gotten one from UCSD. I agree with former writer -- certainly great to get a letter, but not getting one doesn't mean much about chances of matching.

Thank you letters from Michigan (typed letter & handwritten note), Northwestern (typed), Wake Forest (typed with writing on it), and Duke (handwritten note)

Got a postcard from VCU. Got a nice letter from Wake.

MUSC as well.

got an interesting e-mail from one of the PD's (not sure it's appropriate to say who) saying that my application stood out as being among the most competitive so far this year and inviting me to a second look event. Flattering but odd; I'm not that competitive at all.. Not one of my top 3 programs at this point, but still a nice gesture. I don't mean to sound cryptic, but just don't want to ruffle any feathers or break post-interview ettiquette.. PM me if u want to discuss further or if u got a similar message..

Hi all, new to this site and thought I should share. I am still early in the game but have received thank you letters from Northwestern PD (typed with handwritten note) and OHSU PD (handwritten card). No word yet from my 3rd (very recent) interview. I wonder - do all programs send thank you notes, with varying degrees of "selectivity," or do some not partake in this at all?

Hey, if you don't mind, when did you interview at Northwestern? Did you interview with the PD? I really like their program. Thanks, Y

Hi Y,
I interviewed in late December. Did not interview with the PD.

to Irlandesa: yup, got a letter from BU with some handwritten note on it. Essentially sayin heyr really want me. Falttering, but as has been pointedout by others, wouldn't put too much weight on it.
has anyone heard from Thomas Jefferson?

U Penn...dang that was fast!

Jamezuva, I got one from UPenn too, very shortly after the interview. Did yours have a nice little note from the PD on it?

I got one of those; pretty quick also! It had a handwritten note but it seems that (all?) interviewees are getting one. Oh well 🙂

Oh yeah, got a very positive email from one of my interviewers at yale some time ago.

yes, it had a handwritten comment on the bottom too. I'm guessing everyone gets one.....

Got one from the Chair of Medicine at Baystate, and the Assoc. PD I interviewed with told me I would be getting one from him as well. The faculty out there are SO nice and dedicated to teaching; damn shame they tend to get overshadowed by the extreme emphasis on recruiting ONLY IMG's, and the awful admissions schedule that the PD and residents have concocted..

i got a letter today (1-17-05) from BU though i interviewed a while ago with a flattering little note at the bottom. i also got two hand-written ones from jefferson shortly after the interview. Alson heard from temple typed and hand-written.

any one else heard from BU?

😱

thanks for the info; I guess the date on the letter would have been earlier since yesterday was a holiday.. My mom is checking my mail while I'm out in Springfield, maybe I'll call her and ask if anything showed up today. I am SO glad my last interview is tomorrow!

BTW, one resident I met at Dartmouth heard NO correspondence from them after interviewing (which I did get, strangely), and she still matched there (her #1 choice too!)

yes, I finally heard from BU I was starting to think no one was going to send me a thank you letter, I'm so happy!!! (not that it means anything, just that at least I didn't suck at their interview)

UCSF (email from program director). Anybody know if this is standard? I'm excited about this program.

Previously posted: Northwestern and OHSU

UT-Houston, super nice letter from their super nice program director (nicest PD in the country). 😎
