I always find it interesting to see where the threads end up. Threads about autopsy end up being about twinkies or south park. And almost every thread ends up as an anti-clinical medicine thread. Which is all good, of course. It's just interesting.

Slide review sessions are fun - we have had a bunch of them lately where attendings bring slides and teach us stuff.

i dislike clinical medicine, i would rather look at slides all day.

The reason for that is that we don't have an Official Anti-Clinical Medicine Thread.

I was thinking of starting one myself.

nah, i like professing my dislike for clinical medicine in every thread 🙂

anyways, off topic....i'm watching kill bill 2 right now. Who thought kill bill 1 was better than kill bill 2? who thought otherwise? or who thought both of them sucked?

If you are posting at the same time that you're watching, you'll never find out.

I thought KillBill 1 and 2 were kinda like 2 hour music videos, cool but overrated.
Napoleon Dynamite ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MMMMMMMM....... Twinkies..... 😍 so much better than the raw cookie dough from a plastic roll I had tonight following my reheated Pizza Hut leftovers and Bud Light.

My high school reunion is in October. This should be the time to go on a nice low-carb diet or something so I'm nice and taut for the event. Ah, f*ck it. Cheers! (tips Bud Light to all of you)

Tyler won gold today...awesome because he had a rough Tour. I'm glad for him.
Anyone ever seen the cycling cult classic BREAKING AWAY? Dennis Quaid is so cheesy - ie. great, as the tough 'townie' who hates the college kids. It was nominated for Academy award.
Another good cycling cornball movie is AMERICAN FLYER with a young svelte Kevin Kostner as an MD at UW-Madison. He and his brother are haunted by their dad's death from a berry aneurysm, and their uncertain future. It is so bad, it's good.
The younger brother picks up a girl at McDonald's and she jumps in their 70's cargo van to go race THE HELL OF THE WEST! She looked a little like Jennie Finch, but shorter, and not as good looking, and not as smart, and definitely not athletic, but she was a girl!
Ok, that is a start for derailing thread - with the obligatory Olympic reference, movie citation, and homage to Jennie Finch.
I did get to gross w/ a path today...cool stuff. And yes the clinicians on the elevator were bitching about being 'an hr behind' in clinic.
Add: path=excellent, clinicians 👎
But I forget what the original post was about 🙂

OMG...that's what I had for dinner...pizza and bud light. Seriously, there's this one pizza place in Ann Arbor that also delivers beer in addition to pizza. Kinda pricey though.

I took a different route towards the Kill Bill series.

I saw Kill Bill 2 first, in the theatre, and then saw Kill Bill 1 several months later on a hotel spectravision.

Interesting anyway. Kill Bill 1 was pretty neat when you knew what happened in Kill Bill 2. I must say though, Kill Bill 2 was a little confusing since I had no freaking clue who any of these people were. But after about 5 minutes I realized it was a Tarantino movie and thus, I was destined to not know what was going on anyway and pretty soon someone was going to die to the strains of some cheesy 70's music and I just enjoyed it.

That whole stepping on Darryl Hannah's eye scene though was a bit much.

This one's for you, yaah.

Good pictures of Twinkies are surprisingly hard to come by.
Let's see how many pictures of Twinkies we can get on the same page.

That's exactly what me and my friend were commenting on about an hour ago. I thought that out of all the different ways Uma Thurman killed the people on her list, her payback for Darryl Hannah was the best and most poetic in terms of the history laid out in the movie. The second best payback was how she used the 5 point punch thingy to kill bill.

I dunno. Slicing off the top of someone's head to expose their brain while yet keeping them temporarily alive is pretty impressive.

And Darryl Hannah couldn't see (OMG what an awful pun) what happened to her so I guess Uma would have to be the one enjoying it.

If anyone finds a picture of Jennie Finch eating a Twinkie, you get a terrific prize. No photoshopping.

I like TWINKIE MAN. My new favorite super hero.

Random thing...I've been looking into the different features available as an SDN poster. There's the ignore list...I got that part...that allows you to ignore posts from a particular user. Whatever.

Now what's the whole schtick with the "Add to Buddy" thing? What's the whole point of it? Does it confer any advantages or magical powers?...like if you have 10 buddies on your list, you reach level 2 and acquire the ability to materialize poo out of thin air?

18 threads in 1:34.
I wonder if that makes top 5 speedy threads?(note to self, consult Top 5 thread).
Perhaps unemployed baseball statisticians (who was the leading rookie left hander in triples in the american league who was in the bottom half of the batting order?) coulld moonlight on our forum, compiling such data.

I think it's just a buddy list - I haven't used it. It probably informs you if one of your buddies is online or has any recent posts. Since I am a pathologist and therefore don't like living people by definition, I have no buddies and am an antisocial loser. The buddy list is meaningless to one who by definition has no buddies.

You could try it though.

I'm going to say something that will probably make many women angered at me, but then again it probably applies to men as well so go easy. And since lots of these swimmers are probably taking hormones that make them mostly men anyway, I am not sure one could get upset. I said this to myself after watching the women's swim team celebrate after breaking a swimming world record (which happens every 5 minutes). Anyway, after that long intro, what I have to say is this:

Just because you are wearing a bathing suit doesn't necessarily mean you look good in it.

Yaah, thanks for the pix!
I'm already married, so she's yours.
Don't worry, she'll come around...

Along those lines, a circumferential bulge between the bottom of the mini-T and the top of the hipster shorts is singularly unattractive. Why, people, why??

Now I'm just being mean.

Precisely. The whole point of having an Official Anti-Clinical Medicine Thread is that we could gleefully ignore it and carry on much the same way as ever. 😉

oh then if you put it that way.
i'm already upset today...i better not cap on call today or i'm gonna be super pissed. ok i feel better now that i let that out.
i'm in the mood of starting the Official Anti-Clinical Medicine thread but I'll leave you to do it since that was originally your idea.

Go right ahead. I'm post-prandial and having difficulty thinking right now. I have no active issues with Internal. Plus I am on call again tonight, so if you wait for me you'll wait forever.

it's 1:30pm, and I have only 1 stable patient left to see. All the residents (save one) have disappeared for their academic 1/2-day. I think I'll go nap until 4:30 then come back for sign-over. Yeah.

7:30pm:

I have slung my steth and brick-laden white coat over a chair in the dept's temporary lunchroom. Out the west-facing windows, the sun is setting over the mountains as I sip blackcurrant tea and wait to be paged to volume-assess a patient.

The junior rez is gone for a journal club meeting at a Thai restaurant and has redirected all her pages to me, at least for the next 2 hours.

And still it is eeriely peaceful.

The gods are playing tricks on me - something must be brewing.

never sleep. if you try....BEEP BEEP BEEP!

you probably studied right?

AndyMilonakis said:

You must be kidding me. 😛

Seriously, I'm not the kind of person who can study when waiting in line for 5 minutes. I colonize a 4-seater table in the library when I study. I pull so many books that I find it extremely difficult to do it any other way. Guess I'm just highly distractable.

Well, I done went and changed my electronic-mail address for posting on this forum, and they said I would get a confirmatory email, and I had to click a link in that email to re-activate my account. Well, I didn't get no email, and tried several times, but no luck. So eventually, today, it finally worked, so I am back. But I was left without posting powers for a time there. Looks like everything went fine in my absence though. Clinical medicine is still despised.

Whoa. "Electronic-mail". That's akin to saying, "Oxygen saturation" or "atrial fibrillation".

Oh yeah. With every fibre of my being... until I go to bed and the Stockholm fairy waves her magic wand over my head and I wake up again thinking, "That wasn't so bad."

Makes me almost not want to go to bed.

Well... seeing as:

(1) you probably have the same number of bones as I, and that
(2) I have a great deal more fibres in my being than I have bones,

The logical quantitative conclusion therefore is that I despise clinical medicine a great deal more than you do. 😉

Wow - you actually got me thinking - do men and women have the same # of bones? Well, as I found out in my brief research, on average they do. But # of bones can vary slightly from person to person.

However, men often do have more bone - thicker, more dense...

I'm going to stop now before this thread goes from vague sexual innuendo to full-on PG-13 sexual innuendo. It was not my intent, but alas, such are the vagueries of the english language and its colloquialisms.

How to distract a pathologist for 5 minutes...

With which bone having the greatest variation?
I'm sorry, I do apologize - the question was really only meant half-jokingly. I profess, my curiosity is piqued - but we can most certainly leave this alone if people are offended by my bad taste. 👎 👎

People get offended these days by almost anything, so it is a safe bet that someone was offended. Wronged! Violated! The trust has been violated!

People get offended if you try to help them sometimes (are you trying to do my job for me? Think I can't handle it?). They get offended if you don't try to help (are you too good for this job? Wouldn't you want help?). They get offended if you smile at them, frown at them, ask them what time it is, offer to buy them lunch, ask them if they will stop blowing cigarette smoke in your face, don't let them board an airplane as soon as they want, don't want to let them carry 5 bags on the plane, etc. People stink. They offend too easily, and then they try to make you feel bad about it. The Boston Globe had a story today about teachers switching to purple ink (instead of red) to correct papers in order to be kinder and gentler. **** that! If you're wrong you're wrong, even if you're 7 years old!

I don't know which bone varies the most. Probably the long bones. 😛

"You b*tch! You devil incarnate!!"-type messages are still not turning up in my PM inbox... *shrugs*
Play on, people.

I dunno. Lucy Liu keeled over pretty fast, and it wasn't as if she was squirting or anything. Doesn't some nasty encephalitis have to start growing before you die from brain exposure?

The entire movie I kept thinking - Baz Luhrmann.
A samurai swordfight in a snowgarden, to Flamenco beats. Brilliant.
