Here is my situation- I am accepted to a school I would love to go to. Very happy about that...but it's pretty damn expensive (43k tuition).

I just found out I was placed at the top of the waitlist for my top choice school, which is only 20k a year!!!!!

Do you think it would help my chances if I wrote them a letter saying if accepted off the waitlist I will 100% attend? Or is this a stupid idea...thx.

dont kno bout yer chances. but do it. write the best damn letter u will ever write. :xf:

Don't think it will be seen as a negative thing?

Why would it be seen as a negative thing? Just don't mention your other acceptance. Just say that you remain extremely interested in the school, you're a perfect fit for X reasons, it's your top choice, and if accepted you will attend.

It probably won't help. But it won't hurt. Go for it. (I assume there is no chance that the other school will ofer you a terrific merit scholarship to make the cost more equitable.)

worst case scenario is that it does nothing to move you up on the list. best case you get in and save yourself some major $$$. Start writing

(BTW you might want to check the school specific thread to make sure that school accepts letters and also see if their waitlist is fixed once established. I know that at SIU for instance, once you're on the list and given a score, that's it. a letter of intent or update can't help you. but that's pretty rare i think)

Go ahead and send the LOI. I would do it.

It will only hurt you at the school to which I am also writing an LOI :meanie:
