I'm applying to Michigan State CVM c/o 2016 this fall through the vet scholars program and am required to write a letter of intent to receive the supplemental application. I've looked at examples of LOI's, but I'm not quite sure what to write. So far, I've introduced myself and my academic status, my credentials, why I chose the program and how I heard of it. Should I address why I am interested in vet med, or should I save that for my PS? Thanks! Also, I would really appeciate anyone wants to read my LOI and give me feedback!

I don't really know what you should put in it, but I'll definitely read it over and give you advice! 🙂

PM me .

Thanks, MSUspartan and der! I PM'd you with my LOI.

Glad to see a V.S. thread on SDN 👍

When I talked to Dr. Baptista in the Spring, she said the letter/e-mail of intent should be a short (one or two paragraphs at the most) describing why you want to be a vet (abbreviated, of course) and why you chose vet scholars. She made it sound like it wasn't too formal, but not too informal either: a delicate balance, I suppose. Because I had just had an hour-long conversation/meeting with her about the two things above she told me to include, it was pretty short 🙂 I don't really think academic status or credentials are necessary, considering they know you have them or else you wouldn't be applying. I think it's a good warm-up for the P.S., and in retrospect kind of served as an outline for mine. Good luck!

Thanks, Klizard. Do you know what the purpose of the LOI is? Does it determine if we get a supplement or not?

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. I believe that making sure they send the right supplemental is definitely part of it, but I think they have us send it in before our application so they know who is applying through the vet scholars program, and who is just applying early. Like I said, I'm not certain of the exact purpose, but this is what makes sense to me 🙂

Thanks again, Klizard. I've put a lot of effort into this LOI. I will probably submit it on the first of July. I hope it's good!:xf:
I will probably make a VS thread in September so you, I and any other VS can keep in touch through the process. 🙂
