I found threads on this in the pre-med forum, but none for vet med...so I just thought I would ask. I read somewhere on here that someone was waitlisted and then wrote a letter of intent and then got off the waitlist, of course not knowing if the letter made any difference. What is everyone's opinion on if this could help? Or do you think it would be pointless? Just curious. 😳

I think it's much more common in med school situations. The most I've heard of vet applicants doing is giving an update on experiences, and I really doubt that makes a difference either. Basically, I wouldn't worry about it - just sit tight.

I had to write a letter of intent to receive an application to MSU's vet school, so my purpose for writing one was different. I think you are referring to Nittanykitty, who was waitlisted at NCSU, wrote a letter, and was later called off the list. I don't see why it would hurt your chances, but most schools have a ranked wait list, in which people are set [with ranks] on a list, and are called off in a descending order. Some schools don't rank, and review applicants on the waitlist AGAIN when making a decision on who to call off (Tufts), so in that situation, a letter could help. You can contact the school(s) and see if they have any advice. Good luck! If you would like, I could read your letter for you!:luck::xf:

I agree with PSIL.
Don't bother with schools that rank, they aren't very likely to do more than look at the letter.

For other schools (I remember Western also as one), as long as you write a cogent letter, what do you have to lose? Don't forget the theory of recency, people more easily recall that which they learned most recently....so it would be great for them to have you in mind right away. AND, it can't help but sway the decision a little for them to know that you plan on accepting any offer off the wait list right away. This way they have to do less work!

I say "go for it".
