Long time lurker, first time poster.

So I am fortunate enough to have been accepted to a Top 20 school in my state; however, it is private, and therefore very expensive. I really like the school, but I am also really, really interested in my state school. It is not far behind in ranking (which I know doesn't really mean much), is in a more ideal location for me, and will be much, much cheaper. The problem is, I got put on hold/deferred decision from this school.

Would it be appropriate to mention my acceptance to the other school in an update/letter of interest? Something along the lines of "I am fortunate enough to have been accepted by School Y, but I would absolutely love the opportunity to attend your school (School X), for these reasons...".

I've had a couple people tell me definitely mention it and use my acceptance in my favor, but I kind of see it as a stuck up/snobby thing to do. I am afraid it will completely turn the school off to me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

In the long run they will be able to see, but honestly I don't think that there is any value in the naming. I would just say you were accepted somewhere else but really want t attend there. Be sure to give a strong argument as to why.

If you're a great applicant and if they really want you, this might help you get onboard. But I also see it backfiring if you have average stats. It's your call.

I don't think it will help or hurt your chances either way
