Hello all-- A school that I am waitlisted at has indicated that it would like updates. Therefore, I do not intend to unearth the debate on the worth of updates/intent/interest letters in this thread. In this situation, I need to write one and that has been made clear to me. Not doing so would be like telling the school that I am no longer interested, which I do not want to do.
The question is this: I was recently asked to do some work for a fairly straightforward publication (it's not super difficult work, but I was honored that they had faith in me to do the analyses correctly). The fellow (anesthesiology) who I am working for happens to be at the institution where I am waitlisted. I need to write about this in the update, but I am not sure if/how I should talk about who the work is with. I want to avoid indication that I am trying to edge my way into the school because this all happened by coincidence. Plus, it should not matter that I am technically working for someone at the institution. How would you handle this? I also don't want to sound uninterested by being vague and oddly distant about it.
