Letter of interest?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Its a short letter expressing why the school is at the top fo your list basically. I sent one, I dont think it can hurt.

Did you send it after the interview or before? I was thinking to write one to AZCOM because they put me on hold for possible interview😳.

I am also interested in sending a letter to a school. But to answer your question above^

I think one sends a letter of INTEREST to try to get an interview.

Then if all goes well, one may send a letter of INTENT stating that you will 100% go to the school if accepted after an interview and I guess you can send this letter immediately after the interview or wait a while and send it if you are possibly waitlisted. I know that M.D. schools take weeks to months to send a response so a letter of INTENT may be more applicable then before hearing a decision. However D.O. schools get back with a decision very quickly so there may not be time to send a letter of INTENT before you hear from the schools. I hope this helps.

Thanks TerpDO, I was put on hold for possible interview... and I really wanna go there. I should write the letter.

i sent one after my interview as a thank you/interest letter

Interest letter + thank you to interviewer in one? Wouldnt it be more effective for you to separate them since only your interviewer would be seeing the letter of interest whereas if you add it to your file the entire adcom board seeing the letter

i dont think so. It flowed well together. If i get waitlisted thenthen I may consider sending another letter of interest or eventually a letter of intent.

Hi all,

I am just wondering if anyone can PM me with an example of what goes into a letter of interest.

Also, is it consider poor form if you tell the school you are interested in that you currently have an acceptance, but you really want to hear from them? I suspect it is, but hey, I gotta ask 🙂

It's not considered poor form to do that. It is part of the process.

Tell them the facts of your situation, and then explain why you would be a good fit for them and they would be a good fit for you. Then ask for due consideration for an interview. Be formal and polite. Treat it as part of your application, so make sure that it is correct grammatically and in spelling.

Do you think it's better to send the letter via email or regular mail? The school has been communicating with me via regular mail, so I'm thinking that that's better, but then paperwork often gets lost. It probably doesn't even matter so much, and i'm being too paranoid, but what can i do, i'm a pre-med, i'm cursed..

More formal things like this, I would do the old fashioned way... snail mail. It just looks more professional.

BTW, I did it, and I just got the interview invite at my top choice a couple of hours ago!

that's so awsome, congrats!! 😀

I had my interview last week and they should let me know within the month, so i thought...this can't hurt, it's my top choice.

GOOD LUCK!!
