How important is it to have one from a Doctor?

Do they need to be submitted with the application, or can you add them after the application is submitted? If you can submit them later, how late is it safe to do so?

Which ones should I submit out of these in addition to one from my organic teacher?
Accounting Professor (my major)
College Track and Field Coach
Employer out of college

Basically I have volunteer and shadow hours, and will continue to do so up until early Fall. The problem is is have shadowed alot of doctors for a short amount of time, and not directly involved with Doctors much at the hospital I volunteer at.

Not important at all.

Letters of recommendation are considered part of your secondary application. You can create placeholders in your AMCAS application for your letters and submit without having sent the letters so as to avoid delaying verification of your coursework.

However, it behooves you to send them in sooner rather than later, as schools will not begin to consider your application until your file is complete, i.e. they have received your letters of recommendation.

How well do each of these people know you? To what of your personal qualities can they attest?

Keep in mind each school can have it's own requirements for LORs (including having two from science professors).

Overall, I know many people can send more than one letter. Some will send up to six (I think?! I only sent three). Think about who will give you the strongest letters, and who can discuss which personality traits the best. All of those would make for very diverse, interesting letters.

Generally, the guidelines for LORs are: two science professors, one non-science professor, and, in your case, one from your employer after college. One of those should be from your major.

So, you should get your organic professor, your accounting professor, and your employer to write you a letter, and try to get a fourth letter from another science professor.

You only need a LOR from a doctor if you're applying to DO school (in which case you need a letter from a DO doctor).
