Letters of Rec -- how many and from who???

I have 6 letters of recommendation at my disposal to unleash onto dental schools.

Which do I send??? I'd love to send all 6 because they are all unique and show a different side of me. Most schools suggest 3. Do they get pissed if you send more?

I have letters from:

1 - Pre-Health advisor -- i think this one is definitely going to schools
2 - Dentist -- this one obviously has to be sent
3 - Econ advisor -- I'm an econ major and this definitely shows my well-roundedness
4 - Theo prof/community service -- this letter definitely talks about my inter-personal skills and my volunteer experiences at a health clinc
5 - bio lab prof -- dont know her too well, but we met before she wrote the letter and she seemed enthusiastic during our meeting
6 - bio lecture prof -- ehhh... dont know the guy, met for about 3 minutes and he agreed to write it after i gave him my resume. i'm actually somewhat scared of this letter. also he is taking FOREVER to write it.


What should I do?!

Well you obviosuly need 2 science professors so number 5 and 6. Make sure the lab class you took fulfills 30 hours of lecture/lab or else it wont count as a class. I would send the rest in and let the dental schools randomly pick their 3rd choice.

you said all 6 letters are unique and you'd love to send all of them, but you don't sound enthusiastic about #6 and it doesn't sound like your #6 will give you a good letter. but i know how it is with some prof, so hard to get a good letter from them. good luck

I'd send all 6. Most schools want 2 science LOR and 1 non-science LOR if you don't have a committee letter. Also most want to see one from a dentist. Sending 6 shouldn't be a problem for the schools, especially if each of them is good and helps you to stand out

sometimes, schools don't like an influx of excess of lor's. i don't think all schools have the time to sit down and read everything.

You need to sit down and figure out which schools you are applying to and what their requirements are. We have no idea whether or not your LORs will meet all the requirements of those dental schools. 🙂

Also, the prof writing letter #6 does't seem to know you that well. I would reconsider whether or not to use his letter.

I sent them 4 letters...one from my bio prof...and the 2nd from my organic prof...the 3rd I recieved from the dean of the university...the 4th from the dentist i shadowed !! 😀

i have a committee letter going out that's based on three letter - 1 orgo, 1 nutrition, 1 research boss.

I have others, should I send more on my own? they're good too. I don't have one from a dentist tho, but can get one. and if I send an extra one should I do it to aadsas or to the individual schools?

what do you guys think?

my pre health advisor wanted to me to get 6 letters in addition to hers/pre health committee letter. i told her that was ridiculus and that 4 total would be fine. seriously, no one wants to read 8 letters about how great you are and what a good student you are. they can get that info from your app.
