Hi everyone,

I'm currently a sophomore in a large state school. My science classes are HUGE. For example, my organic chemistry class was 500 kids last semester (1500 overall).

They say that as you move more and more into classes for your major that your classes will get smaller. However, since everyone and their mother is a premed/dent/etc that simply isn't the case at my school. That being said, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get letters of recommendation from professors of these large classes(not necessarily orgo)?

Thanks in advance!🙂

wow 500 in orgo... in intro to bio, understandable, but in orgo?

well make the highest overall grade in the class, and visit the prof during his office hours to show your enthusiasm.

If you want to get a LOR from an o chem professor, you'll have to go to their office hours frequently enough for them to develop a relationship with you. On the other hand, it doesn't matter how large your classes are right now, they will get smaller (I know you don't seem to think they will, but they will). Consider that multiple majors at your school have to take O Chem - Chem, Chem E, Biochem, Biomedical Engineering, Genetics, Neuroscience, and probably many others that I can't even think of right now. The classes that are strictly within your major won't have the same large number of people in them.

go to office hours even if you don't have any questions. You can go to review your exam, or just make up some questions. Also, you can get an on campus job that has you work for the professor in some capacity (research, SI, TA etc.
