I am planning on applying to pharmacy schools this June but I am a little confused on the process. I do know that everything will go through PharmCAS and now that the school semester is coming to an end, I feel that I need to get my letters of recc now. Can anyone enlighten me on how it works? Does my professor write a physical letter and send it to me for me to send to PharmCAS, or are they supposed to send it directly? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I believe all letters of recommendations use the electronic service (eLOR - electronic letters of recommendation). Basically get your professor's email and through PharmCAS you basically send them an evaluation page that they will fill out. PharmCAS will email it to the professor's email and they just have to follow the instructions to access the page to fill out your recommendation.

Thanks! I had another question... so the letters of rec i receive will be good for all the schools i apply to? and also will i be applying to all schools separately, or is just one pharmCAS application good for all the schools? sorry i have no idea how the application process works...

Yep all the letters of recs will be good for all the schools you apply for. Just make sure that you meet whatever the school's letters of rec requirements are (for example: some may ask for 3 and some may ask for a specific letter like from a professor or pharmacist). PharmCAS will just send that one application with all your things to the schools that you select. They will give you an option to select the schools you want to send to all in one go. Also some schools do not use PharmCAS so you would have to follow whatever that school does.

I just finished this cycle of applications so hopefully this information. But the overall application is pretty straight forward. Good luck with the applications and hope you do well =P. And feel free to ask any questions.

Also, make sure whoever you're sending the email to (when it's time) checks their spam folder. 2 of my recommenders could not find the email to send my letter for like 2 weeks.

For certain schools you will need different recommendations. You need to check out the specifics for each school. For example, a spiritual adviser may be desired for some schools, but not allowed as a reference for others.

You only have to do one pharmCAS application and it will be sent to all the schools you apply to. However, each school will usually require you do a supplemental/secondary application. This is where you need to check each school's application process to see how you can submit the supplemental app. Some require that you send the pharmCAS first and then they will invite you to do the supplemental, while others will just require that you submit both applications without them telling you. I think most people submit their pharmCAS and then their supplemental for each school, which is what I did.

The most important thing is to check the deadlines for each school. Most schools require that your application is sent in by the end of fall. Some give preference to those that apply early and others do not even check any application until the deadline is over. I prioritized my applications by which one was due first and which schools favored earlier applicants.

After applying this past cycle, my best advice is to just get organized as soon as possible. The pharmCAS website provides a checklist for you so you know what you need to get done, but you should make a checklist for each school that you're applying to as well. It can honestly be a lot of work applying to several schools, but if you stay organized it will be less overwhelming.

Good luck!

Make sure you dont get your letters until the cycle opens. Dont do any of your app until it opens. You will lose any info you put into it.
