Hi

So I got my first secondary today and now I'm realizing that I can't fulfill the LOR requirement because they require one letter to be from the biology, chemistry or physics department. My problem is that i took these courses 5-6 years ago and did ok in them but not great, and clearly they're going to write me a mediocre letter. Also I did grad school and let's just say by the end that my supervisor and I were barely on speaking terms and for the last half of my project I pretty much consulted with another professor because he was of actual help unlike my own. I was wondering if its bad to list this other professor as a co-supervisor but I don't know what his letter of reference is going to be like. I know it'll be a strong letter but I don't know if it will elude to the fact that he was more of a supervisor to me than mine own...or if i should just ask him to please go along with this in my LOR (although I'm not sure how he will look at that).

I was wondering what the rest of you were doing for the LOR that needs to come from your undergrad institution in one of those specific departments?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

sorry for the long post

I called the schools that I was really serious about and asked if I could substitute a LOR. I had several back up options because it had been years since undergrad and many of my profs didn't even work at my undergrad anymore. For backup I had a letter from my employer, a non-science undergrad prof who knows me well, my grad school mentor, another grad school prof., med students I had taught in my graduate program. One or two of these were accepted as substitutes for almost all the schools where I applied.

Saint Louis University Med. I have a similar problem. They require in the absence of a premed committe letter, 3 separate college professor letters. I have 2 science professor letters, 1 from my current PI. As a non-trad, it's difficult to get letters from undergrad profs from years ago. I tried to call and email them, but so far no response.

I have the same problem, in essence. I'm either going to call or email all the admissions offices, and tell them my situation (ie. not in touch with undergrad profs and even if I was all they could do is provide a meaningless letter vouch ing for my grade in their course ). One school has told me to submit an explanation along with my secondary as to why I can't meet the letter requirements, and which letters I would be substituting. At this point, I feel I just need to give them what I've got.
