Just curious if anyone here knows anything about this. In dental school, treatment plans are devised with faculty guiding/approving everything you do. Is it like this in a GPR as well, or do you get to enjoy a bit more freedom in prescribing treatment to patients?

Hey,

I haven't started my GPR yet, but at my interview they described the process a bit. Sounds like you are the treating doctor and get to make the decisions, however, you can discuss them with anyone. Since my program is a VA there are some (very few) limits to treatment on some (very few) patients depending on what their veteran benefits cover. Also, I was under the impression that we have treatment planning grand rounds type of discussions once a week to meld minds on the best treatments. To be sure, you don't need a start, two caries checks, and a final for a class one...

This depends on the program and likely on the residents skill level. Some are more structured than others. However, on average you should have quite a bit more autonomy in a GPR.
