Is lexi-comp good software for a pda to take on rounds? Also, can the same software CD be put on more than one device? If so, does any1 have a CD that I can either borrow or buy?

I'm pretty sure that they have safeguards setup so that it is one license per user. In other words you can't share lexi-comp. (as far as I know)

It is a great program, but lots of people are happy with the free programs like epocrates or mobile micromedex. You should check those out before spending a bunch of money on lexi.

I think it's overkill. The free epocrates was more than enough for me. If it's bad enough of an issue that you have to sit down and look something up, just use a computer. I've honestly used my PDA less than 20 times while I've completed 10 of my 11 rotations. It would be a waste of my damn money if it weren't for the fact that I got a GPS reciever and it doubles as a GPS mapper in my car....and it doubles as my MP3 player....

And pirating software is easy if you are a computer nerd like me.

Is a standard school subscription to Micromedex sufficient to download this or does your school need a special subscription to Micromedex to get this? Before i reformatted everything, I could've sworn the mobile micromedex I downloaded was free to me for only like a small time period and then i got harrassed endlessly to buy the software.

i already have epocrates--wonderful and free. but i'd like to try other free software as well.

It's a separate link for us through the school's website so we are "subscribers" upon entry to the site. I'd talk about it with your dean of students...if you have access to CP, you should get access to the program, too. The website for the general public is here.

what about micromedex on pocket PC? for those of you who got it for free (more than 30 days), does your school subscribe to the pocket pc one?? liek i said, micromedex downloads for free initially but it is free only for the 1st 30 days for me...am i doing something wrong?

It's been free for me for years, but maybe thats because my school has a subscription to Micromedex? I think I just clicked on a link that said for students and went from there.

You don't have to go through your school to get micromedex for free. I just downloaded it from their website. If you are a student they will ask you to fill out the registration and tell what school you attend and that's it. I have it free up to two years after I graduate.

From my experience a lot of the residents and med students use Epocrates so it may be worthwhile to have that on your PDA. It's a lot easier to discuss what you found if everyone is using the same software. I like to keep at least 2 different programs on it just so you can double check yourself before you recommend something. You'd be surprised how often you'll find a discrepency, or something one program had that the other didn't.

I've encountered this several times... one program will not have anything about a drug but then the other program will. It's definitely good to have two programs! (plus they don't take up all that much space in general)

I use Lexi-com PDA version and Tarascon PDA version. Tarascon is very useful and affordable (about $30 a year) and you get to try it for 1 month free see if you like it!!
