If I choose to not take ADEX/CDCA and obtain licensure through an AEGD or GPR (The state I live in and not planning on ever leaving allows for this) would I be able to potentially participate in a specialty residency afterwards in a state that does not accept AEGD or GPR as a route to licensure? Haven't been able to find any information on this.

Very few. Just get your license and be done with it. No need to cause stress later. Imagine you go into OMFS and have to do an MOD 4-6 years later.

Most states allow you to obtain licensure through credentialing also (meaning you have had x amount of clinical years preceding the application of a state to obtain licensure). In most cases it’s 5 years.
So if you were to do a 4 year OMFS, just work a year in your state and apply to another one if you so wish. If you did OMFS 5+ years, you wouldn’t have to do an MOD to get licensure, just apply to the states that accept credentialing.

But I agree with you, obtaining licensure through boards would be the least stressful in short run.

Or go through licensure of residency and work x amount of years and switch if you wanted.

Yeah you can obtain reciprocity but you’re banking on the idea you’ll absolutely never leave. I know above has said they don’t see themselves leaving but life is unpredictable so my recommendation would be to just take the boards now
