hi guys!!!

I have a major query and i hope one of u can help.😳

What are the licensure opportunities for a dentist from india who has done his/her advanced dental education in Prosthodontics from a US, ADA accredited college.

What i'm aware of is that i can apply for licensure in certain states only.🙄

Please give me more idea about this. Would really appreciate some input.

Thanks

Hi
Can you tell me some thing about your programm. I am also interested in Prostho.

Check with the individual state licensing board. In TX I'm pretty sure that all you need is proof of a DDS degree equivalent and completion of a (at least)two year ADA recognized specialty program. After that, you have to take whichever regional boards (TX takes WREB) and the state jurisprudence test (which was really kind of a joke), and you can apply for a license.

Hey drem,

thanks so much!! 🙂 I was glad to get some input from someone on this query of mine.

Do we need to have a green card to apply for licensure??

So basically, each state would have their own rules of giving u licensure, right! U think that can be looked after later, i mean the licensure rules keep changing and we never know wat the deal is 3 years later. So, its best to apply for such programs as its a specialization.
Please suggest.

thanks

hey xerostomia,

I believe the application cycle for this year has passed, however check online for the Prosthodontic programs available that accept international dentists.

I think the deadline for Alabam is Nov1st.. if u wanna try.

With your advanced education in a specialty you might be eligible for license in these following states after taking regional licensing exam with the board permission ( as of today, things might change!) . You do not need to have green card or citizenship to get the license
( except NY. This requirment may be waived if you agree to work in rural areas). But some states do need SSN, which you can get it if you are on F1 and do some campus jobs.
If you practice for 5 years in any state, you can get license in most of the other states ( licensure by credentials).. Still some states need DDS/DMD from accredited US/Canada schools even if you practise 5 years in another state.

Arizona
Connecticut
Georgia
Illinois
Louisiana( you will be restricted to your specialty)
Maryland ( only pedo)
Mississippi.
Oregon ( you will be restricted to your specialty)
Tennessee
Texas.
Virginia.

Hi all,

I was an active member until 2 years ago. Meanwhile got into school and was inactive for sometime now. I have some questions about dental licensing in California and felt this is the right thread and the right people are giving advise. I heard that CAL requires a SSN befor they give out your license. I will be giving my Licensure in mid-2007 and donot have a SSN (as I am on a dependent visa). Ho wdo people with the same situation go about to get the license and start practicing?
Without a SSN-I dont have a license-Without which I cant get a job-Without which I can get a work permit-Without which I can't get a SSN. Its a vicious circle that I am about to fall into. I hope somebody reading this thread has some light to throw on.( Obviously all dental graduates out there will not have had their GC's already!!)

Any small info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I recommend that you contact the CA state licensing board. They can give you information on what their criteria is for CA licensure and what you need to do to get your CA license. I hope that helps.

Thank you TXtoothfairy,
I already spoke to the CAL licensure people and it is their requirement to have an SSN. All I want to know is what all the students without a SSN are doing when they want a license in California. Thats what I am not able to figure out. I hope somebody can help me with that.

Thanks
