Hi guys! I am looking for input on your feelings towards LMU and Minnesota? I would be out of state for both And moving from my parents house for the first time in my life. Looking for pros and cons about class structure and area of the school. I know LMU doesnt have a teaching hospital does that truly matter? Thank you for your input!

If there isn't a significant difference in cost, I would personally go to UMN because of the teaching hospital. We have a lot of opportunities (without covid anyway) to go into the hospital, see what the clinicians do, and work hands-on with patients. I think the teaching hospital does make a big difference because the instructors that are clinicians bring up real cases, and occasionally will have one that is relevant in real time.

Class culture here is generally great and the faculty care a lot about your success. There's a lot of support to go around and a lot of clubs with more opportunities for hands-on learning.
There's a lot of variety in the area around the school for places to live, from apartments to house rentals, living alone or with other students, etc. Basically whatever you are looking for there's a good chance you'll find something that works for you. Being right next to two cities means that basically any chain store is within 15 minutes of you no matter where you are, and there is a lot of stuff to do.

Yeah, I really agree with this. There are opportunities available to you with a teaching hospital attached to your classroom building that you just won't get at a program without one. Some of my favorite memories from vet school involve getting texts from some of the surgeons (who know I want to be a surgeon since I hang out in the small animal surgery service as often as I can) about cool cases and getting to go scrub in for those. I even took a final exam in the wee hours of the morning once so I could scrub in for a surgery scheduled during class time - and the faculty member teaching the course was totally on board with that. It was really neat.

I am currently a LMU undergrad and can speak to the area near LMU if you have any questions. I have seen most of the facilities at the vet school and everything is super new and renovated because the program is so new. Unfortunately, the main campus and the vet campus are around 25 mins apart and the vet students seem to split time between the campuses. As far as the area goes, we are located in a super rural area with very few shopping/food options. Knoxville is around an hour away and has a much bigger selection. Most of my friends that are in grad programs here choose to rent houses with several classmates. There aren't very many apartments/other housing options in the area. As far as things to do, we have a lot of good hiking options, but there isn't much else to do without driving to Knoxville.
