Hey All!

So I was just accepted to Tulane for starting next fall. I was wondering. . . on the AMCAS I put in a large amount of hours for volunteering and shadowing. They weren't unreal or falsified. They were what I would have done if I planned to stay where I am until July of next year. Now we are planning to move and I'm nervous about not fulfilling the # of hours I put on AMCAS.

The paranoid part of me is nervous that my acceptance will be taken away (I've worked for years to get this so it still feels -really- unreal for me) if I don't complete the hours or get close.

Anyone have input/experience on this?

Congrats, Tulane is a great school and New Orleans can be a beautiful city if you stay in the right places.
As long as you try your best to fullfill as many hours as you can, I don't think you'll have a problem. I stopped volunteering, shadowing, and attending the pre-professional meetings at my college after I was accepted. Partly because I had a busy semester, partly because I felt like I deserved it

Congrats on your acceptance! I highly doubt they'll call the contacts listed for each of your activities to verify your hours. I was recently accepted as well, and I'm also considering moving home until next summer to save money. However, I only listed the hours I'd already completed on my AMCAS. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Besides, you can always find volunteering/shadowing opportunities closer to your new home and update your other schools if you so desire. Tulane - you're already in, so I imagine you're all good.

Go enjoy life, my friend. Congrats on the acceptance.

Once med school starts, you'll probably miss your current life.

They're not going to take away your acceptance for that. They gave you your acceptance based on what you did, not what you were planning to do.

Unless OP put them down as completed because 'hey yeah, I really honestly plan to do this, not like I am going to run out of steam or move to a different state or anything, right?'
In which case they're still fine, no one will check, and they learn a valuable lesson about why it's preferred that you don't put down future plans as fait accompli.

You're entirely allowed to include expected future hours. It's mentioned in the AMCAS instructions.

I didn't say you weren't allowed to put them in. I said you shouldn't present them as something you've already finished, not because you'll get in trouble, but because you end up in uncomfortable situations like this one.
