  1. Pre-Dental
I attended community college and had a ruff time when I was younger and had a 2.5 gpa. I am finally going to a 4 year school .. I believe I have 2 years to raise my gpa and take the DAT . I'm 25 what would you recommend as the best plan of action

My main concern is my gpa... Will I have time to raise it while in 4 year ?

Assuming your next two years have the same number of credits as your first two years and you get a 4.0 your next two years your GPA will be 2.5+4.0= 6.5. 6.5/2= 3.25 Final GPA. That might be enough to get some school to talk to you but it will be a tough road and might require a masters after. If you average a B+ GPA (3.3) over the next two years you will be at: 2.5+3.3 = 5.8. 5.8/2= 2.9 GPA and with that GPA you'll find a lot of closed doors, so now you know what you're up against and what you need to do. This also isn't factoring in your science GPA so you will have to look at that too

My science gpa is really good , its 3.7.

So with a best 3.3 gpa attainable would you even recommend perusing dental school ?

I really want this to happen and want to make it happen , but I'm also trying to be realistic .... If it's impossible at this point I don't want to waste my time on a bio degree only to **** myself in the end .

You should stick with it if it's what you really want to do. I graduated undergrad with 2.8 gpa. When I did a post bac for dental school I got A's and B's and did well on the DAT. If you show consistent, marked improvement and score well on the DAT your commitment show. It will be obvious what you are capable of when you are motivated. Not everyone knows what they want to do when they start college and admissions people know this. If you can get good, consistent grades and score well on the DAT you will be fine. If nothing else you might apply a couple of times and you will still be a dentist at the end

You dont have to get a bio degree if you aren't sure you would make it into dental school. You can always do different majors and still apply...

But .. what are my chances . That's all

Its attainable. The student you were years ago probably isn't student you are now. Just prove to the dental schools that (1) you want this for yourself and (2) you will be able to succeed in dental school. Try to get a 4.0, kill the DAT, do some shadowing/volunteering if you need it, and get solid letters.

Thank you so much guys ! You've been helpful so far

Community college transferring to 4 year university? GPA is wiped and you start fresh. Schools will look at only science GPA and university GPA. Keep it up, you can do it!

Sorry buddy, but community college GPA is not wiped clean! Be careful giving incorrect information to others.

Oh I'm sorry. Just checked ADA and they do count them. I'm so sorry! While I was in the University for 3-4 years, they didn't care much about community college GPA, but obviously ADA and graduate schools do. Sorry about the misinformation people!

Input your grades so you know where you stand GPA wise. Play around with the excel sheet to see how many credits you need to get your GPA to where you want it. Like everyone else said get the highest possible score you can on the DAT. Apply early (1st batch, but you can still take your DAT in August) and broad. Best of luck.
