Hey

Can anyone tell me what usually happens during the interview for Limerick? I heard you get put in groups and you solve some kind of problems plus another traditional interview after? Any advice on how to prepare or what sort of questions they ask (for both sessions) would be appreciated if anyone has gone through this process before.

Thanks

I went last year. First thing they did in the morning was a quick introduction where we got these nifty name tags (I still have mine and wear it to anatomy... Nigel loves it 😉 haha) The morning will consists of small groups meant to represent a test PBL session because the program is based on the PBL sessions its important for them to see how you work in a group. Our topic was we had like 7 patients and they all had different illnesses and we were the budgeting comity of some big hospital and we had to allocate which patients got how much money for what procedure. There's no right or wrong answer, they just want to make sure you're comfortable working with other people and not a mute. There was 2 people from UL in the room with us and making notes. Then we had an appointment time to do our individual interview. Mine was in the afternoon so i took advantage of the 3 hours of freedom and went shopping at the eaton center haha i highly recommend it if you get time! =) The individual interview is incredibly individualized! Remember, they are looking for a broad range of people so i met a dude right before my interview who did his PhD at cambridge and was working on his post doc at harvard... here i am not even graduated from my measly undergrad... don't stress it though, they're really cool! They focused on my paper mainly. They through in questions like "when did you know you wanted to be a doctor", "why do you want to study in Limerick", "have you ever lived on your own, how do you think you will cope with being so far from family/friends" and "who really stood out to you in your pbl session" just answer honestly and keep cool. It took about 10 minutes if i remember right. After that they did a presentation on the program and really sold it to us. It was great, i'd never seen how the PBL program worked. We knew within 5 days or something if we got it. They emailed us to make it quick and painless lol.

Good luck, hope to see you here next year! =)

please excuse my lack of grammar and spelling skills, I was obviously not an english major...

Thanks that helped a lot! Did they ask you a lot of research questions? just wondering how technical I should about my project ie. are the ppl asking knowledgeable about research? and were they specific on extracurricular activities you did and why?

see that's what i was expecting too! lol I spent a lot of time in my undergrad doing a big research thing at my university's medical school, but they didn't even mention it in the interview. It was, I thought, the highlight of my paper. Apparently not... they asked me a lot about the sport I was coaching at the time... It was strange but looking retrospectively, they probably have 90% of their applicants who have done some sort of research, they're looking for what makes you different and suitable for this program.

I'm sorry if this has been answered but I've looking for a while and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know how many people are invited to interview for Limerick? I know there is 30ish spots for internationals, and I know there are 3 days of interviewing in Toronto. How many interviews are there, and where other than Toronto are they being held?
