Currently I'm a junior pre-vet student and I have been trying to narrow down my list of schools where I want to apply to. Part of me wants to apply anywhere that I meet the prerequisite standards but the other part of me knows that would be over 15 schools which is not only stressful but expensive. My fear is not getting in on the first cycle because I didn't apply to enough schools. Any advice on how to eliminate schools but still apply to a decent amount?

Cost of attendance!!! 100%!!!

Also, you could evaluate your application and if you have any deficit (lower gpa, less experiences, etc.) see which schools place more weight on what parts of the application and apply to the school more likely to appreciate what you bring to the table. Another strategy is apply only to schools that you realistically see yourself going to, don’t apply anywhere you won’t relocate to. Finally, narrow down schools based on how their curriculum/values/programs etc align with what you want to pursue. But seriously, COST OF ATTENDANCE.

Don't apply to any school that you wouldn't attend if it was your only offer. You may think now that you're just looking to get in anywhere and you'll be thrilled with any offer--and maybe that's true but we also see people sometimes who get an offer somewhere but want to apply again because they were waitlisted at a school they prefer. So think carefully about that.

Apply smart. Just because you meet the prereqs and minimum standards doesn't mean you stand a *good* chance of admission to a particular school. Find out how they evaluate applicants and choose schools that play to your strengths.

And I'll echo cost of attendance. Think about what your personal break point is for "this costs too much and isn't worth it". Everyone's is different.
