i heard dr. G from lincoln is no longer the PD? FREIDA also doesnt have dr.G as the PD anymore.
i would try to verify this on lincoln EM website, however even their website is down
can anyone confirm or deny this? and when will their website be up and running again?
thanks

He has not been the PD for a little while. They had a different PD who got Lincoln through accredidation but I think right now they don't have a full PD (although there might be an interim PD.) there is one or two of thier residents who visit this site. Maybe they can add some more info.

(I think he is at SUNY downstate now.)

thanks roja.
i was hoping too meet him when i do away EM at lincoln since i heard so much about him from various ppl and residents

Dr. G is at King's County now. Dr. L was the new PD up until the beginning of 2008 and then left for political reasons from my understanding. Lincoln has a temporary acting PD (Dr. M) but they just started interviewing potential PD's this fall and are hoping to fill the position over the next few months but it has not been filled yet.

anyone know why?
does it have any bad stigma behind it that lincoln em is not run as nice or smoothly as before? financial/admin problem?

Dr. G is at Cook County now.

I just met Dr. G last week here at Downstate. He might just be a visiting professor though, but I did see him.

What's his history btw? Downstate's EM PD said he trained under him back in the day and called him EM's godfather. Must be one heck of a history.

I never met him personally, so I only know him by reputation only. He trained many of the EM physicians around NY and virtually all of them will unanimously attest that he is one of the finest EM physicians and educators in the specialty. Most of them attribute much of their expertise and clinical finesse to his teaching. He headed the Lincoln ER residency for over 20 years. The rumor is that he was ultimately pushed out of Lincoln due to politics. Internal Medicine has a heavy pull at Lincoln hospital and I got the impression from the residents I spoke with that he ultimately fought too hard for the department and stepped on a few toes in the process but take that with a grain of salt. I got the same story about the new PD that lasted for a year (Dr. L). Apparently it was all political but I don't know the details and the residents didn't know either from what I gathered. I didn't press for too many details because I didn't think it was any of my business so there could be much more to the story that I simply don't know about.

Here's a snippet from google.

Joel Gernsheimer, MD, FACEP
Attending Physician and Visiting Associate Professor
SUNY Downstate Medical Center/Kings County Hospital Center
Brooklyn, NY

Dr. Joel Gernsheimer began the Lincoln Medical Center residency program in 1981 and served as residency director through March 2007. The program was his passion, and he educated countless residents and medical students — many of whom are now leaders in the field of emergency medicine and actively involved in ACEP.

Dr. Gernsheimer has received numerous awards for his teaching and his contributions to the practice of emergency medicine, including "Teacher of the Year" and "Physician of the Year" awards from Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Bronx, NY, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Lifetime Achievement Award. The great amount of training he has done in the specialty of emergency medicine and his dedication to the residency program for 26 years make him a true hero of emergency medicine

There's currently an interim PD and an active search and interviewing for PD position. Dr G is badly missed.
