Can someone remind me what do I need to know to calculate recombination frequency. And major ideas/concepts which we need to keep in mind when solving for linkage vs independent assortment questions for the MCAT. I am not very good at this topic because I couldn't clearly understand it last time I read bio book.

any help is appreciated

thanks

You are looking at say 2 different traits with 2 alleles each and trying to find if those two traits ocuur with Independent assortment or they don't independently assort. Linkage is when two genes or variations of those genes always occur together-like lovers that never separate.
On the xsomes genes- assort independently if they approach the set ratios put out there by Mendel.
- are said to be linked if they don't fit Mendel's ratios.
Linkage is determined/estimated by finding the Linkage Map units which is a %. It goes 1-100 ofcourse. Any value less than 50 suggests Linkage. If you do the study that MedPR linked you to it will make more sense.
