Which SMPs are "linked" to certain medical schools meaning graduates would have a good chance of getting into said medical school. I have a very high MCAT score (36+) but low GPA and have submitted my amcas application but want to go to a SMP this year to give me a better shot of getting in somewhere. Suggestions?

also, just in general anyone know which programs are still accepting for the incoming fall class? I know BU is but their program seems intense and more "hard science"y

The ones that have excellent records of admission into the host school have app cycles that begin in about October. Such as Cincinnati, EVMS, RFU, Temple. All of these close their apps by June at the latest.

You can start by finding the list of SMPs in the stickies at the top of this forum, and then look for details on each SMP by looking at the program's web page and the school-specific threads here in this forum.

Too late. The programs I listed above start classes in less than a month. Admissions are competitive - for instance, EVMS takes about 600 apps for about 32 seats, and closes its app cycle in April.

If you need help getting into med school because of a low GPA, then an intense, hard-sciency program is exactly what you are going to have to do. Because that's what med school is, and that's what you need to prove you can handle. Regardless, any program identifying as an SMP is very intense, and very hard-sciency.

BU doesn't accept many of its SMP students. But if you can get into that program for the coming year, that might be interesting.

Note that simply being enrolled in an SMP doesn't mean you have a shiny new app. In a program like BU (which expects SMP students to apply to other med schools), you should expect to not have an improved med school app until after completing at least a year of the program.

For other ideas on what to do with the coming year, see the low GPA thread in this forum: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=125347

Best of luck to you.
