I've been doing a bit of research, and I've found that the active drug in Depakote and related drugs can theoretically be put into liquids. However, it never is; I can't find any version of it to have ever existed in liquid form. Does anyone know why this is?

Valproic acid should be enteric coated because it is extremely irritating to the stomach. Sodium divalproate is too, but somewhat less so.

There is a generic form of valproic acid that comes in gelcaps, but a lot of people can't tolerate it.

Thanks so much rph!! That definitely makes sense I should've thought of that.

Isn't there a liquid valproic acid available?
