So I initially asked this question in the EM forum. I want to solicit any advice from people appying this year...

So I have both COMLEX I & II scores, and I've performed a bit above avg. I have the raw score, 2-digit score, and the percentiles.

Most program directors are not familiar with the COMLEX or with the scoring they get from NBOME. I thought that if I included the percentiles in my application, it might be easier for them to compare between D.O. applicants, or somehow use their own formula to compare D.O. with M.D.

So, I am considering listing my COMLEX scores and percentiles in the ERAS CAF?...maybe in the Awards Section? i don't know, what do you think? Other recommendations on which section to list the scores? Or is this an altogether Bad idea? I mean I don't want to give the impression that I am overly concerned with board scores.(even if I truly am)

Opinions from residents, faculty, and program directors are welcomed🙂

I'm not applying yet, but I was wondering the same thing, because the COMLEX 2-digit score is well below the percentile (unlike the USMLE, where the opposite is true). I also saw an application for an internship that asked for 3-digit COMLEX score and percentile - I assume they mean 2-digit score and not percentile, since the percentile is not provided by the NBOME but can only be calculated by the applicant based on stats.

Listing scores and grades on your CAF or in your PS (as I know some people who did) is redundant and kind of ridiculous. If a program accepts COMLEX in lieu of USMLE I think it's reasonable that they have a working understanding of the scores. Looking at the makeup of the current classes at particular programs (% DO's) you're interested may give you an idea if a PD gets it. A program that will let you submit only COMLEX but doesn't actually have any DOs probably doesn't get it. In these cases, I don't think throwing numbers in your CAF will make a difference...you should just take USMLE.

BE,

so you didn't list your COMLEX scores, and you did just fine.

It's too late for USMLE. I only have COMLEX, so i need to work with what i have. My thought is to make it easier for allopathic PDs, as the raw score is unfamiliar to them, and that a percentile score is NOT ambiguous. NBOME only reports raw score and 2-digit score to the PDs. In order for PDs to know the percentile score, they typically will call the NBOME statistician to calculate it for them. Percentiles vary depending on the test and year taken.

Anyone else have input on this matter. If this is absurd, then I will can the idea.
