where should I apply?

Where is your state of residence? Do you have any clinical volunteering/employment with patient contact in this country?

Texas, no employment with patient contact, just the informed consent where I entered the OR and GMB 40hrs

You should accumulate 150+ hours of clinical volunteering/employment with patient contact before you apply. Also 150+ hours of non clinical volunteering such as food bank, homeless shelter, etc. . Otherwise you could be screened out at schools. @wysdoc your opinion for this Texas resident ?

I was hoping that the surgical internship and GMB would be enough to cover that part....

Clinical research was a combo of research and health related activity.
Where was your brush clearing done, in the wild or directly helping people clear their yards or make gardens?

In the parks, Indigenous areas, workshops with school kids about the connection between land, culture and medicine.

144 hours were just informed consent and OR time, taking samples samples to biorepository for storage and genotyping, etc.
My other research is in a different lab, dealing with activity dependent electrical stimulation in spinal cord injury, 1 year and a half.

You still have little non-clinical service orientation hours, which puts your application at risk of getting screened out.

Why is your advocacy in global warming/climate change germane to your purpose as a physician?

I can explain that volunteering easily: being a physician isn't just about treating disease, it's about promoting wellness in the broadest sense, which includes advocating for a sustainable, equitable environment. In a warming world, where wildfires worsen respiratory conditions and heat waves stress vulnerable communities, physicians must recognize the climate crisis as a public health crisis.
Environmental health directly impacts human health. Climate change disproportionately harms marginalized populations, especially those with limited access to green spaces, clean air, and safe water.

Explaining is one thing. What are you doing? What have the physicians you have shadowed been doing? Hospitals?

(Good coverage of what we talk about in Becoming a Student Doctor on the link between planetary, animal, and human health. Though I think you forgot the animal part. Don't forget noise pollution.)
