Can someone post some more ideas... Here are the ones i know of. List includes stuff that doctors can do that doesn't involve actually "healing" patients directly.

a) FDA analyzing affects and regulations of different chemicals and drugs

b) business, analyzing companies for investment purposes.

c) research

d) pathology

e) authors

f) medical device design

g) Health Insurance decision making

h) hospital management

i) academic teaching

j) consulting for tv shows

k) medical law

Anyone got any other ideas, especially ideas that you know of doctors doing first hand.

I myself wonder this....

I noticed that some become fulltime writers of "inspirational novels", and probably sell a bunch of copies just because the MD title is on the front cover after their name.

Some MD's get their MBA's to leave the options wide open.

expert witness testimony in court

making medically related policy decisions for HMOs (often requires MBA)

patenting medical devices

Admissions Director (only 125 of those in the country and not all M.D.s)

advising in the entertainment industry - like the doctors behind ER
