So.. I have a question regarding "planned" courses.. I'm considering applying to a school that would require an additional math class. If I get into my first choice school, I wouldn't need to take that math class. If I were to get accepted into my first choice before the math class starts, would it look bad that I listed it on my application as planned, but then not actually take it.. or possibly take a diff math class than listed (even if the school that I want to go to doesn't require it)?

Or... Would it be possible to leave it off the application completely, and still apply to the school that needs the math.. and then make a decision about taking it at a later point.. or would they immediately reject it because they see that you don't have the class, and it isn't planned? Sorry if I just made that really confusing...

Just put the class. I had no idea what my schedule was going to be, so I made my best guess; I was totally wrong and my planned coursework and what I actually did for my last semester was quite different. C'est la vie.

Just be as accurate as you can, shouldn't matter if it's not perfect (they don't expect it to be).

As I understand it, only classes you are planning to take in the next scheduled term should go on VMCAS (classes that will show up on your transcript as "In Progress" for Fall 2013).

As for the school that requires the math, many schools tell you how many courses you are allowed to have uncompleted before applying. Usually, it's one course. So, if that's the only prerequisite you have not completed and you were to be accepted, you could get a "conditional acceptance" (i.e. you can only complete your acceptance once you've taken and satisfactorily completed the course before vet school starts).

Thanks everyone. I'm pretty clear on the requirements for the schools I'm applying to regarding the number of "in progree/planned" courses one is allowed.. I'm more worried about listing the course and then not taking it if I get into a school that doesn't require the class.. If that is looked down upon or not. I'm guessing that unless they require the course, the school probably isn't really looking at the planned courses anyway? Thanks for your responses!

I know for a fact that I put one course on my app and then took a different one instead, but it was a riding class and therefore probably doesn't matter. I think I also put a second semester of biochem in my planned classes when I went on to take a non-science course instead (which should be more helpful to you 😉). Oh, and I also ended up dropping my calc class when neither of the schools I was deciding between needed it--they said since it wasn't a prereq they didn't care.

In conclusion, my "planned courses" wound up being pretty darn different from what I actually took and no school considering me cared.
