What listserv did you get the NRMP email from yesterday?

LOL well there you go, obviously not by last name. I really don't think there is any signifigance to this. It is probably not assigned list servs having to do with matching. The probably just have different mail servers for applicants based on some variable that is not last name or match status.

Intriguing, but don't lose too much sleep over this.

I am about to get a massive MI..if these numbers go ahead like this..

Why don't we (meaning: you, since I don't have the inclination to do this) do something like AAMC ID, or specialty, or... what else?

But then again, I doubt it means *anything*.

But why would they send it on different domains unless they wanted to segregate the mailing list..No technical people around????

Alright, now we need a poll asking how many people think the NRMP IT guys are laughing their a**es off at these two threads.

I think whoever thought this match process was a good idea was a sadist.

Perhaps to decrease the load on the mail server on the day when they are released. Maybe redundancy is built into the system.

Probably the easiest way would be to get info from people with no interviews but still ranked a program to get the scramble list--but we should be careful we all know the
validity of anonymous posts.🙂

NRMP like any other companies. They will create thier mailing list 2 ways:

1. They will add you to their mailing list during your registration.
2. Create mailing list when you submit your LOR.

If they go with option 1. Majorty of people whom get emails from first server probably register during the same period

If they go with option 2. Majorty of people on each server submitted their LOR at the same time frame.

I bet you anything, if you change your email address and profile at NRMP. You will start to get emails from another server

Either way, you will be added to one list or another based on your registeration or submission and not your match case.

This should put you all at ease and end the discussion:

I went back through my old emails from the NRMP. ALL emails directed to me from "NRMP Staff" originate from louvi.ease.lsoft.com. Even emails dating back to Jan. 14th. If they were somehow sorting us out based by ranked/unranked, they would have to have some sort of time machine (which I'm not ruling out but...).

Unless the lychee list was recently created...

My 3/3/10 email was to louvi, and my email yesterday was lychee

Wait, what are you guys speculating about?

obviously the louvi people have something to fear! haha

...or, they will have a big database with everyone's information (including email) in it. When they want to send an email, they query the db to get a list of emails that fit whatever criteria they want, and then generate emails to that list. This gets passed to the mail server. It then divides the email sending over some number of sub-servers randomly.

Wow, this is hilarious. The numbers on the poll are interesting, though...seems about 2/3 of people got lychee emails. I also got a lychee email, and my last name starts with a B. And I ranked 20 programs, so I'd be pretty surprised if I didn't match anywhere. I also got a lychee email for the for-profit scramble email on the 3rd. Did anyone get a louvie email on the 3rd (never mind...I see someone up above me said they did get louvie email on the 3rd).

Still...seems crazy if something as simple as this was really a chink in the NRMP secrecy armor.

I don't think I'd worry about this...just a few more days 'til the match/no match email!

just spoke to Listserv Techsupport a couple of mins ago -

he stated that this is completely random and cannot be set up this way.that is, nrmp sends the emails and the servers randomly send them out to the applicants.

@philly2010,

thanks for doing the "sane" thing... thanks for the inquiry..

Oh sure, that's what the MAN wants you to think!

:laugh::laugh:

@indo -

i guess its more sane than what everyone else is doing - speculating without any concrete know-how.

How is 75/25 random?

We still have not been able to figure out how this is working. But I think we can pretty much lean towards this server thing being not representative of matched and unmatched status.

We cant rule it out yet just because of the odd way that a majority have got mails from one domain...Maybe it is some technical thing in which the mail server has recognised the lychee domain as a threat and bounced the msg back and this has next arrived from louvi. I dont know, there is no clear answer to it.

The explanation is interesting. I wonder if it has something to do with which email address someone provided. I used gmail and got louvi. Anyone else? At this point it seems unlikely to be related to matching or not.
