I had a bad Step 1 score and was planning on taking Step 2 in September but ended up not doing so and then went on an away rotation, so my step got postponed to the first week of november. I know I will have a much better step 2 score but I won't get a score until the third week of november at the earliest. I wanted to take step 2 earlier so that when I went to interview they had the score and saw improvement.

Should I try to reschedule the interviews that I have in mid November before my scores come out or just leave them as is and go ahead and interview at those places without my scores.

I know that nobody knows this but do schools decide that same day after your interview which pile you go into. In other words does it matter if I interview with a bad step 1 score and without my step 2 score and then they get my good step 2 score a week after I interview or am I already in the "rejected" pile. I don't want them to think I took step 2 and that I'm witholding it because I got a bad score.

If they invited you to interview, they already don't think your step 1 score is bad enough to exclude you. Sure, they probably would love to see a step 2 score that shows improvement, but it would be crazy for them to go through the hassle of interviewing you and then putting you in the "reject" pile simply because of a score they already knew about ahead of time.

So no. Don't reschedule all those interviews. That makes no sense. They will get your score afterwards, and it will be fine.

Agreed. We review applications specifically for new Step 2 scores while doing final ranking. Plus, if your Step 2 is really much better than Step 1, you could send an email to programs where you have already interviewed.

What if your step I is really stellar, should you wait on taking step 2 until later in the year so you have the option to send it to programs...in case its not as stellar?
