Hello, I just joined this board and was wondering if anyone has gotten accepted into the pharmacy program at Long Island University and what their stats were. I'll be going into p-2 in the fall and have a 3.4 gpa right now and really worried. So any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I heard that ppl who got accepted have GPA as low as 3.2. I am not sure about PCAT stats - just make sure you have 60th percentile and above and I am sure you are fine. If you have a 3.4 GPA, you are fine.

About 200 students from LIU are accepted into the program each year. The other 20 are transfer students. I do not know how many people actually apply to the program, but if you look at previous threads, some say up to 3000.

Definitely do your PharmCAS early so LIU can contact you earlier. Not everyone will receive an interview - about 450 or so will. Do well on your interview and your essay, apparently they count a sufficient amount in the deciding factor.

I, myself, am going to P-3 this September. If you need my PCAT scores, they are somewhere on this site. I did have a thread asking for advice. But I have a 4.0 GPA.

I got rejected on the original application and appeal letter but I'm going to call them up next week and ask them if any spots opened up due to people failing Spring/Summer classes, falling below the required GPA, or declining acceptances.

It won't hurt to try.

Yeah, but I botched up the application on PharmCAS. I submitted it too late, and the schools never got my scores for the Fall 2007 Semester. I failed Organic Chem II in the summer, retook it in the Fall and got a B. Schools never found out what my grade was even though I sent in updated transcripts. I assumed that PharmCAS would upload my new grades into their system when they received my transcripts.

What ended up happening was, since my new grades were not uploaded, my overall was a 2.7 and my math/science was a 2.3. My 2007-2008 school year grades were great but never reflected on my PharmCAS application.

So yeah, my stats:

Overall GPA - 3.2
Math/Science GPA - 3.0
PCAT - 73 Composite with 87 in Bio and 82 in Chem
2 Years of Pharmacy Experience

^ Do you know if being in the honors program makes any difference? I've heard different things from different people, from advisors to current pharmacy students. Also, do u you what stats gets you an interview at liu? thanks

You are in LIU Honors? So am I!

To be honest, I don't think Honors make much of a difference because everything is going through PharmCAS and our honors classes are not weighted more heavier than non-honors classes. If you are in LIU honors, then why worry? Most people from there get in anyways.

And Sparda29...
Did you call PharmCAS to try to fix your grades? In January of 2008, my Fall 2007 grades were all in except my Honors english grade. I realized that LIU had sent the transcript before they had all my Fall grades. So I called LIU and told them to resend my transcript with my english grade. PharmCAS did not automatically change the stats online when they received my transcript. I had to email them telling them my situation and that they have to change it or they are ruining my chances of getting into pharmacy school. They called me by phone to confirm and everything worked out fine. The only problem was that it took very long - 2.5 weeks.

I sent in my first transcript in November 2007. Finished all the stuff needed by the beginning of December. I was told by LIU staff not to submit until PharmCAS received all of the transcripts.

So, PharmCAS received my final transcript on January 10, 2008. I submitted on January 17, 2008 but I did not change the grades on the PharmCAS website.

So I submitted, and I waited for my GPA to be calculated. The pricks didn't calculate it until February 4th, well after the Academic Update window closed.

I called up PharmCAS in mid-February and asked them why my GPA wasn't uploaded and why I couldn't change it, I got into a yelling match with the guy on the other side of the phone.

I don't want it to come off like I'm attacking you, but whose fault is it that you didn't read the instructions on the PharmCAS? You're applying to a professional program, you can't expect them to hold your hands.

Still, I don't see why PharmCAS couldn't fix my grades in February. I mean, if I'm paying them $200+, I deserve to get my money's worth.

I'm more upset at LIU for changing policies a month after the semester started. I knew that the PCAT was going to be required like a month before Fall 2007 started, but they never said anything about PharmCAS and told us not to E-Submit until everything was ready.

I think that PharmCAS provided a fair service. I personally e-submitted after the semester grades were out BECAUSE I READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.

I also got the PharmCAS and PCAT information in a two page pamphlet form LIU. I really don't understand how you're able to blame everyone else but yourself.

I read the information too, and even then it did not direct me to the page where I would upload the new grades into PharmCAS.

I also got the PharmCAS and PCAT information in a two page pamphlet. I went to a special meeting where they told all the Pre-Pharmacy majors about the process. This meeting was pretty much futile as they did not directly answer any questions.

Whenever I had a specific question about the application process, or PharmCAS, LIU staff did not give me a straight answer. I asked the advisor at LIU the same questions every month last year, and everytime I got somewhat of a different answer.

I'm a bit confused about who got accepted at LIU because a vast majority of my friends got rejected or waitlisted.

Anyone who got accepted at liu know if they look at your fall grades or factor the grades into your current gpa?

So if you didnt go to LIU for your pre-pharm coursework and you aren't from NY is it hard to get accepted?
