I got an "D" from my biology 2.
I got all A's on A & P 1 and 2, microbiology.
They said the minimum grade I can transfer is "c"

In this case, getting "D", do you think they will reject me?

I already did drug screening, sumitted health forms and deposited $500.
They already took $500 from my bank account.
I won't let me retake the class.

What do you think?

All pre reqs must be completed with an adequate grade before a student can matriculate. That being the case - You will need to retake Bio 2. If you retake Bio 2 and get at least a B - they will average out to a C and you should be fine.

However - you will want to contact your school's admissions office to get the exact information (some schools may view this issue differently).

damn, looks like someone may lose their seat. a "C" in biology 2 should have been cakewalk!

why not just take it over the summer session 1 and 2?

I'm pretty sure that you may lose your conditional acceptance (as they state you must successfully complete all Science Courses no later than Spring semester with a C or higher.) You also can't fall below a 3.0 Science GPA.

I'm not a pre-pharm at LIU, but based on Sparda's past posts he claims some LIU pre-pharms lose their conditional acceptances in the Spring due to unacceptable Orgo II and/or Human Anatomy grades. He would be the best person to ask, as he went through a similar experience at LIU in the past.

Usually a D grade is not transferrable to any pharm schools. Maybe LIU will allow you to retake it at another school over the summer (better yet, at their school so they can rake in extra money!)

Hopefully, it will work out for you. :xf: Let us know how you make out.

But,,,, they don't allow me to retake class.
Basically, they don't allow us to take any prerequisite classes during summer.
We have to finish all by spring semester...

Do you think my professor will change the grade?
I sent her email and appeal my grade..... I hope she will have mercy on my situation....... oh~~~

when did you get your bio 2 grade? she cant change your grade unless you get a grade appeal form right? which is within 3 months after your initial grade.

Also your prof will get fired if she just changes the grade =/.

Thanks....... oh~~~ god~~~~ I should contact sparda and asked about it....
I really feel bad............. my professor was crazy...........
exam was extremely hard...... unbelievable...

Oh~ really? how to appeal my grade????
OMG........ I just got my grade today..

I heard in LIU you can take classes in the summer before school starts. It is recommended that you finish before the summer. My friend ia taking orgo 2 now in LIU and will finish class June 30th and I think that is considered the summer session. you should call the pharmacy department. Good Luck

Thank you.... the summer session already started?

that's good, you can go get a grade appeal form from registrar I think, or before that, ask her to change her grade.

Is your friend starting the pharmD program at LIU this Fall?

yes yes. I sent her email.......
I hope she will change my grade....
I will do grade appeal form....., but do I need reason for that????? right???
I will really bother her..... thanks.

Thank you.... the summer session already started?
I assume that the orgo she is taking now is the first summer session. I would call the pharmacy office on Monday and speak to an admissions advisor and ask them if it is ok to retake the class in the summer.

Oh~ thank you so much... Since I am an international student, I always hesitate to call admission office....... OMG... I can't believe this happened to me.....

I just checked the website... there is biology2 for summer session 2.....
I hope I can retake it... but I hope my professor will change my grade first...

I don't think it's that easy. A friend of mine tried that last semester and she was told by the professor that he gets requests for grade changes every semester and in all fairness to all of the students - you can not give special consideration to one without the others. I guess it's worth a try, but be prepared to get the grade appeal form.

yes yes. I sent her email.......

yes, you need a reason, like the professor calculating it wrong.
Why not just take it in cuny and save the money in bio2?
ahaha, I have to take bio 2 this summer session 1. Hope it's not hard as you say it is. I do have A grades in bio ap 1 and 2.
Anyways, summer session 1 starts in june 1, you may register tommorow or june 1st. There is a extra 20$ for applying late.

ah~~~ I am going to Hunter now.... Hunter biology was killing me during whole semester.....
Yes.. I will try... better than doing nothing....
I will also contact to admission office for suggestion.......
I hope they won't reject me...

😕 usually the grade we earn is a reflection of how much effort we put into the class..what's up with hoping for a grade change? if a miscalculation occurred then its understandable..otherwise i'm sorry but that's too bad. thousands of pre-pharmers would die to be in your provisional acceptance position and would LOVE to take your spot..oh and they probably got A's in bio 2 as well. 😴

This didn't "happen to you" - The grade you got was based on your performance.

Your teacher wasn't crazy, she wasn't out to get you, she just asked a lot of you and, for whatever reason, you failed to perform to expectations. Unless every, single, last person in that class got an F or a D, you did something wrong.

There are so many people in your position who would kill to get your seat (some probably literally) who performed well in all of their classes but for some reason or another, were denied a slot at LIU.

If you can appeal that grade (Though I see no basis for that besides the professor intentionally failing the entire class or something equally ridiculous) and attend LIU, more power to you. I wish you luck and I certainly hope none of the instructors at LIU SoP are crazy and that you don't fail on something else ridiculously easy and waste more of someone else's time.

C'mon, Bio 2?

^^

I agree. What's with so many people playing the victim card?

yimmm, hey girlie! HOw is thing going with that bio 2? Kinda worry for u here 🙁

I went to my professor and she said she won't change my grade.
I went to LIU and asked whether I can retake the course or not. They said retaking the course is up to me. They will reject me because my acceptace status is conditional.
There is no hope......

I also got accepted from Albany... but few days ago, they sent me letter. it said they put me in waitlist.
I didn't understand the situation. They accepted me first and put me waitlist later???
So, I called them and they said I didn't pass the writing assessment. THe decision was made bofore writing test was reviewed.
They never give me any notification about that.
I don't understand...

No there is no hope.....

lymms - thank you for your concerning.......

Well, if you want to crawl into a little hole and die, that's perfectly fine with me. That just means that there will be less competition for a job in the future. Stop being emo, retake the class and then take it from there.

Don't want to add salt to the wound, BUT Albany would have also rejected you after receiving your updated transcript with the D in Bio 2 (even if you had passed the writing assessment.) If the D was not part of the school's prerequisites, it would not have affected you - but BIO 2 is a requirement for almost all pharmacy school admissions, and a conditional acceptance means you must finish your remaining prereqs. with a C grade or higher to keep your acceptance.
If you really want pharmacy, I suggest you retake BIO 2 at another school and strive for at least a B, then reapply again for 2010 admission. You are not the first (and won't be the last) who had to retake a course, so don't beat yourself up over it. Move on...

Wait, i'm confused.

Please correct me if i'm wrong. But according to what I understand, most schools will reject you if you don't have C or higher on bio 2 BY THE FALL. I thought even though you failed the class this spring, you can also take it again this summer and make C or above??

it's just a minor setback, just improve yourself. Dont blame yourself, it's human to make mistakes.

It depends on the school - some require you to complete all prerequisites by the end of spring, and there are some who will allow you to complete in summer.
LIU wants all science prerequisites completed in the spring, but will allow you to take remaining humanities courses in summer. I'm pretty sure Albany works the same way. You have to go on pharmCAS and read the school information page, and if it's not on there then go to the school website and read the requirements.
Even though there are some prereq. variances between schools, MOST schools will not accept any science/math course grade below a C. So you'll need to retake Bio2 if you want to move on. CUNY schools don't allow you to retake a course - unless you get an F. Some professors will notify a student who is falling in the D range, and ask the student if they want to take an F instead so they may retake the class. That's something you can consider asking for, but the only problem with that is it would bring your GPA down even further - so if I were you, I'd retake the Bio2 at a community college this summer and strive for at least a B! Good luck!

Harsh toke dude.

Right, to the OP, I suggest that you retake the class and ace it. If they end up rescinding your acceptance, it's not the end of the world, just sign up for some classes next year and try again, and apply to a lot of schools.

What do you think?
Retake

Everything has to be done by Spring Semester for LIU.

I really want to retake the class and try again, but since I am an international student and my aunt pays for my tuition, I cannot spend that much time and money again. This was my last chance.......

Yes...it's little different.

I think I have to go back to my country.... no more financial support by my aunt....... I am also not allowed to work in any place.....
Hopeless......

Thanks for many encouragements.

Then dont take a summer semester yimmm85. It's just 510$ in cuny (nevermind, it's 1020 $).

Anyways dont be depress.

Why dont you head up to a international school worker in your college and talk to him? I remember my friend who was a international student, she got to decrease the amount of money she pay because the guy helped her with her situtation.

By the way I am taking biology 2 right now, I dont like it as much as in ap1 and ap2.

It's too much information. Too much differences involved with asexual reproduction and crap.

Yim, you mind if I call you that? I think you should get a job as a pharm tech or tutoring. I mean you can teach at hunter or become a workshop leader like me next semester and teach. TEaching retains your information, and you get to make money at the same time.

(nevermind, you said you cant work)

Dear, can you try to take it at a community college? It's much cheaper. Besides, try to talk to your family about the situation, they should understand...

That's what happened to me, but I'm waitlisted and I think I know why..but yimmm, don't be traumatized by one D, retake the class, pass it and you'll be fine..it's not the end of the world and most of all, you deserve to be in pharm school, so don't let that one D shatter you..

Definitely, I had 2 D's and 1 F and I got into pharmacy school.
