Hi so I know that LIU offers a 6 year pharmacy program. I'm confused though. The first two years of the program a student is guaranteed a spot, but then the next four years you have to compete for a seat? What happens if you dont get a spot? Do you have to drop the program? Do you have to compete for a spot every year? Also the first four years are spent at LIU brooklyn campus and then the other two years are at C.W. Post right? And also what would be a good GPA to make sure I get a spot? Help 🙁🙁

None of the years are spent at CW Post. It is all at LIU Brooklyn Campus. When you apply out of high school, you are in the pre-pharmacy program. You have to take your prerequisites during your first 2 years. You have to take the PCAT, get letters of recommendation, work experience and you apply for the professional phase (last 4 years) during the Fall of your 2nd pre-pharmacy year. And yeah, you're pretty much competing against everyone in the country who is applying there. If you don't get in, you can either stay there and try to fix the part of your grades which were problems, or take tougher classes and get good grades in them to improve your application.

You probably want to also apply to other pharmacy schools as well.

Once you're in the program, you have to maintain a certain GPA.

If you want to simply get in from high school and not really compete throughout the years, you are better off going to St. Johns.

Yeah, Sparda29 is right. I go to LIU now, and am hoping to get a spot! Every year the people who choose who gets in and who doesn't, choose an aspect of the students' application to focus on; PCAT score, GPA, extracurricular, interview, etc. After you get in though, the GPA to maintain is relatively low. I've never heard of any one getting kicked out of the program.

I think like 20 people are in probation and kicked altogether. Gpa requirement has been up to a 2.33, they are making it more and more tougher...

I knew quite a few people who should have graduated in 2011 who either got kicked out or were dropped into the 2012 class.

is that typical of pharmacy schools or is LIU really difficult?
