Is the AMA's plan the best bet or do I need to shop around?

I haven't looked specifically at the AMA's plan, but it's typically not amongst the best. Depending on how old you are and your goals in life, a term life insurance plan is going to be the cheapest and best option for you.

Anyone recommending MetLife anymore since they are changing their conversion options? Should I get rid of my MetLife plan? Start fresh with a new company?

I would just price check the contract to make sure it is still a good value but unless you want to go to a conversion credit contract where a conversion gives you all of your premium back then I would not worry about it.
