Hi,

I'll be attending Case Dental this fall, coming from Hollywood, CA. I know you guys are probably crazy busy, but I was wondering if anyone could offer me advice on where specifically to center my search for apartments in Cleveland..I'll be there for a few days next week looking for a place. I've been scouring the city-data forum for good info, but I prefer student's opinions. The school suggests Cleveland Heights, University Heights, Little Italy and University Circle, but those are large areas I'm sure with neighborhoods of varying character. I'm looking for a high end, one bedroom and I'm willing to drive 10 min. or so to and from school. Is Shaker Heights or the Warehouse district downtown close enough to school to make the drive relatively easy. Looking for something more quiet and safe and upscale than where I lived in my 20s, where one block to another was either sketchy or nice (very LA). Any info is much appreciated. Thanks, and hope everyone is doing well.

U should join the facebook group as housing information has been posted there.

Although living downtown isn't far when it comes to mileage it will take about 10-15 minutes to drive depending on traffic. I personally don't know anyone who lives downtown and I don't advise it. I would stay away from University and Shaker heights as they are further away. Little italy has older housing, mostly duplexes and apartments above restaurants, if you're looking for something upscale you won't find it there.

I suggest searching around coventry (coventry rd, hampshire, lancashire and euclid hts blvd) and cedar/fairmount (cedar, derbyshire, lennox, surrey). I'm not sure that you are going to find any upscale places in these areas but you will find a few nicer renovated apartment buildings. The waldorf (on overlook) is nice and if you can get on a high floor it has some great views of the city. Here is a link to a leasing company that has some renovated apartment buildings http://www.zipkinproperties.com/residential.htm

Hope this helps

If you're looking for high-end apartments, there's a nice complex about 10-15 minutes driving from the school called the Hamptons. It's located in Beachwood and is near some really nice shopping areas. A couple people in my class live there and really like it. One bedroom apartments start at $890 I believe. Here's the website: http://www.livemillennium.com/profile.asp?AID=13437 PM me if you want info on anything else.

Thank you guys very much. You're input helps immensely.

that's a fair place i think
I think i'm gonna take a look at that one and probably live there hahaha
see you there in CWRU

beachwood mall, is pretty far from school. youhave to think about days when you have snow days and it takes you extra long to travel... and there is a bit of traffic in the morning when you are entering case. esp. before, around 8...

forum.case.edu try people have posted up apartments ,roomates etc

I’ve heard that a lot of grad students live in waldolf and triangle and that they are alright but are a little overpriced. Have you guys heard anything positive on the apartments on overlook road such as overlook manor, lewis manor, Stratford arms, and mapleview. Like would you guys recommend any of those?
And how do we try to find apartments in little Italy? Do we just have to go there one weekend and look for signs with phone numbers? because i've had no luck finding apartment names/companies online. Thanks

it is still early to be finding places unless you plan on moving in june. I would say keep your eye on craigslist and see what comes up on there. as far as overlook i think they are all pretty much the same.... older apt buildings that arent horrible but you should give them a look before living in any of them.

I don't go to Case for D school, but I did go there for undergrad. I spent all 4 years in dorms on the "north side" of campus (15-20 minute walk to the school and a little less secure in my opinion) or in my sorority house on the "south side" (Little Italy) area of campus (about a 5-7 minute walk from the dental school). I'd definitely choose somewhere to live that you can walk to campus from. There are gorgeous townhouses in little italy that are very expensive but definitely upscale if that's what you're looking for. Most of my friends who lived on campus lived in the Cedar/Fairmount area in homes on Grandview. The homes were older, but still fairly nice and very affordable and about a 20 minute walk to the school on a snowy day.

Shaker and Cleveland Heights are both nicer places to live and a 10-15 minute drive to campus. But again, classes at Case are RARELY ever cancelled for weather (once in 20 years or something like that). While I attended, it was a common occurrence to have snow during spring finals week. If you feel good about snow/city driving, living away from campus is fine. If you're wary about it...maybe spend a year close to the school and then decide if you want to live somewhere further out.
