Hey everyone! I actually posted something about this in one of the other threads, but I figured I might actually try and set up a separate one to ask. I recently decided that I will be attending Scholl and am a little worried about living expenses. I also wanted to try and find a roommate. Is anyone interested or know of anyone going to Rosalind Franklin who is looking for someone to live with for the (fall) 2007-2008 year? I would prefer a female roommate as I am female (but as time goes on I know I can't be too picky). I was also looking into getting in at the Woodlands apts or the Student housing "dorms" (which I hear are just like apartments). Just let me know and maybe we can figure something out! Thanks guys! :luck:

Are you from the chicago area?? I am also start at Scholl in the fall, and will be looking for a place to live. I feel it is too early to really worry about an apartment, but maybe we can meet up and see if we click?? I am female, 25, and want to live with somebody because living alone is lonely and expensive.

if you sign up for a roomate in the "dorms" housing will put you with someone. I'm a first year and I got a second year Podiatry student as a roomate, however, sometimes you get people in your class and other time you will be with a student from a different program.

That would be great! I agree - I'm totally up for living with someone - both for expense reasons and b/c it can get lonely. I'm 22 and currently going to school at the U of I, but I'm from the southside of Chicago. My email is [email protected]. I definitely appreciate the information from molldoll, but it would be great not to get a totally random roommate - I mean if I had to, I would, but it would definitely be cool to find someone first!

Thanks for the information! How soon did you get your housing contract in? So you just say you want a roommate on the form (and specify that you don't have someone you want to room with beforehand?)

Awesome! Are you a Bio major? Wouldn't it be weird if we were like taking a class together right now? haha

The housing info comes out in spring and is usually due in April for priority.I got mine in right away. The form will have a bunch of different options to choose from. You don't have to put the name of a roomate on the form unless you are requesting someone specific.

I get post/information happy from time to time. On this whole housing thing-what about students with family? Are there 2-3 bedroom suits available at any schools? I have 3 years until I start pod school and I have 2 girls already-and won't be expecting until 2nd-3rd pod school. any of you doing this too, how is rent for 3 bedroom places in Chicago or other cities.

There is a 2 bedroom family option for the on campus housing at Scholl. three bedrooms in the area will probably be pricey. I'm not sure though because I took the easy way out with campus housing.🙂

I apply in 2 years-enter if God be willing 3 years. thanks molldoll.

At Scholl, you get $1600 a month for living expenses, which is not very much for living in Lake County. Living on campus alone is terribly expensive, I did it my first year and it is roughly $1000 a month. I live off campus now with a roommate and pay 612 a month. The experience of living on campus your first year is great, most of the podiatry students are in the same building, and we had many a late night hangout in the dorms. However, it's really nice to be able to get away from campus on a daily basis now. In your second year, you spend much less time at school. Here is a link to the Rosalind Franklin student message board, you might find some useful information and stuff on here.

I can add to this. I looked at several three bedrooms. Unless you are fortunate enough to find a house, all three bedroom apartments in the area are really 2 bedrooms with an office. Office means tiny room with no closets.

What is the $1600/mo for living? Does that come from the tuition we give, or the financial aid, or average people recieve in loans?

That is how much money your student loans give you for things like rent, health insurance, food, entertainment, gas, bills, booze, strippers, etc...

the amount has gone up over the years. 1600 is what you get if you take out the max.
