Any current residents going to do a forbearance? I'm about to submit my paperwork, but I was curious if you guys are doing it under "I don't make enough money" or "residency/training". I ask cause from my loan company it says "medical/dental residency". Just curious. 🙂

I asked a resident about this and they said their loans were in deferment.

I was told residents don't qualify for deferment.

When I called Great Lakes, they told me to just fill out the medical/dental residency form.

Just looking at the student loan gov site, it says that if your'e doing a residency you'd qualify for forbearance. Did you have some other special circumstances?

Nope. When I looked, it said I should qualify for deferment, in the "graduate fellowship" category.

you should be able to afford the payments though, at least on the IBR plan. Plus, most of my loans weren't coming due until December of my residency year. I made a lot as a resident and would only shell out ~$350/mo...very much manageable.

but yes you should qualify for either a forbearance or a deferment if you require that extra cash each month this year.
