I've heard loan forgiveness for child psychiatry is in the works? Anyone know if this is definite or not? Is it going to be a private thing for certain practices or will be a thing nationally?

I want to become a child psychiatrist so this would obviously be great

Hi squeak, welcome to the forum. I think Solid looked into this - perhaps he can tell you more about it. As of right now, I haven't heard of any of these programs underway in my area. But there are loan forgiveness programs for underserved areas of the country in any field (including psych)

HTH a little.

I posted an article on loan forgiveness a few weeks ago. Search the psych forum you will find it. Right now, I don't think there are any programs in place for psychiatrists or child psychiatrists particularly. It is being discussed in Washington and in the media, in light of the psychiatrist and child psych shortage.

This is not related to general partial loan forgiveness many programs in rural areas offer to new physicians out of residency.
