Loan forgiveness?

This question may not apply as much to new doctors, who mostly make 100K+ or slightly below, but I thought people here might know.

For a lawyer (a friend of mine) who makes sub 40K in a public service job (DA/PD) and has huge public and private loans, what sort of loan forgiveness options are available?
