Loan Forgiveness?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Certain states have types of loan forgiveness or tuition reimbursment for public service. I'm not sure where you are at but New York City is one that offers it.

New York City Board of Education Scholarship Program
offers full-tuition scholarships to presently enrolled entry-level students in exchange for 18 months of service for each year of scholarship support received upon graduation. Upon employment, the recipient's salary is at the rate then in effect for all entry-level therapists. The scholarships are competitive based on academic performance, work/volunteer experience and a personal interview. More information can be obtained from the Office of Related and Contractual Services, New York City Board of Education, 110 Livingston Street, Room 536, Brooklyn, NY 11201. The deadline for receipt of applications is May and interviews are held in June.

I'm almost all the way through PT school, so scholarship options are irrelevant. What I like about the link I posted, is that it looks to include everyone practicing so long that its in one of the specified institutions.

For those of you you didn't read, after making 120 payments on your government loans (~10 years) whatever remains is forgiven. I like the sound of that.

Thank you so much for that information. I am definitely going to continue to do some research on this and hopefully I will be able to find some more information and helpful tips towards payments!!

Please post what you find, as it will help others when they search for the info.

Yup that looks like the link on FAFSA.
Penguin--these are basically jobs in non profit organizations, many hospitals, schools, veterans services, etc. At first I thought it was just rural, indian reservations, etc.........but keep reading.....I think there is a little light at the end of this financial nightmare. Some also have caps on the monthly and overall payments, time lines.....Income based etc. Fanny May and Wells Fargo also have a variety of student loans (non government) with different pay back options. These kick in after you have exhausted your fed gov. loans. Never too late to start talking to these people. FAFSA opens in Jan.......file early.
