So, I have a random question. When I take out loans for med school, would it be possible to also take out a little more money for med school loans (up to $6,000 more over my med school loan cost) to pay for braces? I know I can take another unrelated loan regardless, but would it be ok to use a little money from a med school loan for an unrelated expense, such as braces? Thank you all for your insight!!! 🙂

There are some specific instances in which they will increase your Cost of Attendance (which would allow you to lake out more in loans) but I doubt this is one of them.

You can take out the max loan for tuition + COA, and money left over after tuition goes into your bank account. It's yours to use for whatever you want (including getting braces), but make sure you actually have enough left to live off of as this will likely be your only source of "income."

Most schools financial aid departments usually say something to the effect that COA can be increased for unusual medical and dental costs. Depending on the school this might qualify. Give them a call!
