I was wondering if someone can explain to me how loans work for dental school. lets say i am going to expensive school. Does the interest start accruing once you take out the loan or at the end of the year if I take out ~$100k per year.

I didnt take out loans for undergrad so I apologize if this question is naive and dumb. I am honestly clueless about this but i do want to go to dental school and out of state is the only option I got.

Dont quote me on this but I believe there are no longer subsidized loans (interest does not accrue while you are in school) for any graduate programs including dental school. Therefore interest will start accruing the day you take out your loans and probably at different rates. They are still subsidized for undergrad though.

Your financial aid package will likely consist of Direct, Direct (Grad) PLUS, and possibly HPSL loans with varying interest rates. Up to the entire cost of attendance may be covered by loans or you can borrow as much or as little as you want.

Interest does start accruing once the loans are disbursed (except HPSL which has a grace period) and will continue throughout repayment.
