I know this may belong in the financial aid forum, but I would rather post this here. I know there is a type of loan called "National Health Professions Student Something." I have heard that you must have your parents info to apply for this loan. Is this the only loan that requires parental information? If so, what is the max one can get for this loan?

Doesn't ring a bell, the only federal loans i know of and applied for available to Dental students are the Federal Stafford loans.

edknarf,

I know that only some schools offer this loan. The only one I know of is Tufts. They have the most extensive list of loans. I copied this from their financial aid website:

Health Professions Student Loan (HPSL)
Maximum Loan Amount - Varies based on funding levels
Interest Rate - 5%
No interest accrues during the student's in-school period, grace period of 1 year or during eligible deferment periods

Some other loans require you to co-sign with your parents (probably mostly in cases of bad credit). I think the HPSL requires you to provide your parents' financial information.

Perkins Loan
Max per year = $6000
Lifetime interest rate of 5%-ie NOT VARIABLE
I think this FEDERAL loan requires parental info, but can't remember for sure.

By the way, you would MOST DEFINITELY get a better and more reliable response in the Financial Aid forum. 😉
