Okay, having a freak-out session right now. I don't know if anyone has any advice or has been in a similar situation, but I just checked my financial aid page to view my offered loans and funds. The package of offered government loans for the year is only HALF of what I need it to be. 😱 Like, literally, I need TWICE as much funding to pay for my tuition and living expenses next year. I've e-mailed the financial aid folks and hope to hear back with a call or note tomorrow morning, but is anyone else dealing with/has dealt with a similar problem? I am SO freaking worried that I won't be awarded the funds to pay for my schooling! :scared: I am supposed to move in only three weeks and am now terrified that I am going to have to search for alternative funding in that time. PLEASE HELP!

You can already see yours? I can't see mine yet...

Did you not get the full amount that we were told we should get?

This might be a dumb thought, but are they only showing you the total funds for one semester?

Or maybe it's not complete yet? I'm not sure since I can't see any of mine yet.

Assuming the vet school tuition is somewhat similar to undergraduate (I'm a rising junior at NC State) do not pay attention to that page until you A) get a piece of paper with offered funds, or B) Get an email about your financial aid being complete.

Also, just to make sure that you're looking at both semesters, double check the "Disbursements" tab. It is either visible on the main page, or you may have to hit "My Account" (at the top) first to have it appear. I'm assuming you guys use the same financial aid system (available through MyPackPortal) in these instructions, and if you don't... haha, ignore me. 🙂

Lastly... breathe! NC State is very, very cheap compared to many OOS alternatives and I'm sure everything will work out fine. Good life philosophy.

For Auburn they go a semester at a time, ie I'm eligible for 8500 subsidized Stafford loan, but only 4250 shows up as my current reward. I believe financial aid gets deposited twice yearly. Take a deep breath and call the office 🙂. Hope everything works out for you!

We technically make more than enough to cover the cost of attendance and were still offered the full amount available for COA (the number NCSU post on the money matters page), so unless you need more than their COA, you should be fine. It may be showing a sestet or not yet complete. When complete you will get an email asking you to electronically accept the offered funds. Don't worry till then

My award notification for the fall is posted, but we were told not to accept the loans until later, as they WILL go up.

Since you specified 'the amount of government funds', I'm assuming you're JUST talking about the Federal Direct loans (subsidized and unsubsidized). I think you'd be hard-pressed to find any vet student who is able to fund all of their school expenses solely from the these loans. Most all financial aid packages are composed of these two loans up to the maximum amounts allowed for professional school, and then whatever the difference is is made up by the Grad PLUS loan.

Since I'm not familiar with that particular school, they might do their loan notifications a little bit differently and possibly haven't included the PLUS loans yet.

I saw the title of your post and chuckled, NOT becuase it's funny, but I was exactly where you are last year. I made nice money the previous year that I had to report for school for the upcoming year. When UF told me what I initally was going to get, I flipped out. I cried. I panicked. I even called my old job and asked if I could have it back.

The final low down is this: It's professional school, so you WILL get enough $$ to cover loans, no matter what you made on your previous years' tax returns. I am married and we made decent $$ that we had to report.

You also will get some extra for cheap (very cheap) cost of living expenses, so do not panic.

You are in, you will get funded, no matter what US school you are attending. It's going to be OK. I wish they would better communicate this to us in the beginning, b/c it would prevent a LOT of panick attacks.

Aw, you guys are so nice. Even I feel better, and it wasn't even my problem!

You guys rock. I called the office, explained the situation, and they increased the offered package to double what was listed, which will cover my entire tuition and give me about half of my estimated living expenses. I'm hoping to turn to Stafford and GradPLUS loans for the final few thousand that I will need to keep a roof over my head next year. Thanks for your advice! 🙂
