Hey ya'll. Just got my financial award letter. $42,500 total with subsidized at $8500 and unsubsidized $34000. If my school's financial aid dept has calculated an anticipated budget of (a whopping!) $76000+ for year one, how am I supposed to make up the difference of approximately $33,000??? proper answers and humor appreciated.

apply for the GradPlus loan....its the next "federal loan" that you use after the staffords. I used Citibank (already a customer and want to keep it all in one place if possible). For my school (NSU) I got $57417 in total staffords with a CoA of 79,005. The difference was made up by the gradPlus which is up to cost of attendance. Though I am not taking it all out (budgeting) I was awarded all 79,005 with a combination of staffords sub/unsub and gradPlus.

Yeah, the Staffords max out so any amount above and beyond is Grad Plus, however this amount is still somewhat governed by your school in that the total of all of your loans cannot be more than their annual budgeted allowance. Definately call your financial aid dept and see what their proceedure is to get the grad plusses now if it's not on your award letter.
