I am applying for 2012 matriculation. While submitting VMCAS and supplemental applications, do I need to fill out any loan application? How does that work typically? Does the school automatically consider an accepted applicant for federal loans?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

generally you have to fill out the FAFSA, and for some school the CSS profile this is how schools figure out what you are eligible for. those documents arent available until the first of the year though, similar to undergrad in that respect, except that everyone is considered independent hope that helps

You fill out the FAFSA for financial aid after you get accepted. I'm starting this August, and the FAFSA for 2011-2012 wasn't "due" until July 1st. I actually have some friends who filled it out late, and the school said that was fine. As a professional student, you are usually approved for the max amount of aid if you want it (how much you want is pretty easy to change if something comes up). At UGA, in Georgia, I was approved for about $32,000 per year (the max) with about $8,000 of that being subsidized loans (no interest until after graduation). For vet school, you are considered separate from your parents (even if you are still a dependent for tax purposes) and you are usually granted the max amount.

Check out your school's financial aid website for more info.

This is all correct but wanted to add that some schools will have a "priority" deadline for financial aid. I'm not sure how much it affects your aid but go ahead and fill FAFSA out as soon as you have your tax information so that the school can use it if it needs it. (I filled out my FAFSA before I received acceptance but after I received my interview invites.)

I'll admit that I'm slightly jealous of ya'll that have never gone through the finaid process before. If only I didn't have undegrad loans! curses. (they are chump change compared to what I've taken out now...but still!)
