How does one go about finding locum jobs in DFW market? What are some of the most common companies that work in that market? It seems like DFW mostly has W2 jobs available (per my search on Gaswork) and not many locums available. I think I am missing something and there has to be more locum opportunities available than I am currently seeing. What do you guys think? If someone who actually works in that metroplex has any insight, that would be great! Thanks in advance!

Ur biggest mistake is going in gaswork. There always side stories to companies like meredian in places like plano.

If you are asking about jobs and not familiar with the area. My suggestion to to stay away from the area.

Not being mean. But you aren’t ready for the Dallas area as locums.

You would be a fool to try to enter the area cold as locums.

Wha do you suggest one should do? Accept W2 job and then try to scour the market? Wouldn’t accepting W2 job put one in a few years of contract and possible restrictive covenant as well in that competitive market; and thus reducing the chances of doing locums in that market in the future?

You realize you are trying to show up cold into an area that isn’t known for great locums rates

1. No established home in the area
2. Wanting “full time “ 1099 hours in THAT AREA
3. Concerned about restrictive radius non competes

That seems to me that’s what you are trying to do.

It’s a very bad plan

There are plenty of other locums companies

I would not accept a w2 job in the Dallas area.

Dallas is a terrible market especially for locums. Can you work anywhere else?
I don’t mind W2 job in that market as well as long as the compensation is good. Is the overall anesthesia market bad over there?

Other areas I am considering are Atlanta metro and Orlando.

the w2 market is terrible in dallas too. The crnas have become pretty entitled by the behavior of lazy drs who don’t participate and lots of companies and hospitals that use them at the top of their license. Malignant. Overworked, underpaid. Aneftp is near Orlando - he can fill you in. DFW sucks… had to leave

IME Fort Worth is an easier market to enter than Dallas. There are four decent sized hospitals (independent of each other) within a mile or two area of town. Covered by Northstar, Sound, USAP and Symmetry. No one stays “fully staffed” for long. At least two of the companies (Symmetry and Sound) have no noncompetes in their w2 contracts. Symmetry also does a lot of 1099 contracts with docs (sometimes through agencies but mostly directly through them).

550k-600k if you want to supervise CRNAs
If it’s 20-26 weeks off and averages 40-45 hrs a week 550/600k would be a good deal.

Somehow I think it’s closer to 9-10 weeks off and working almost daily with 5-6 calls a month. With at least one weekend a month of call coverage.

Never consider salary unless vacation time and work hours and workload are factored into the equation. Salary means nothing without all these factors.

The latter is correct. 550-600K.
8-10 weeks off.
3-4 calls per month.

Screw that. I can make that in 5-6 months of locums and take the rest of the year off.

docs need to realize most locums crnas in Dallas area costs around 500-550k including agency fees (30%) to work for 40 hrs /4 days a week with around 10 weeks off with no calls and no weekends.

So they are taking similar pay with calls and weekends.

@aneftp and @Status Sciaticus thank you guys for providing the numbers. I have been following you two for some time and respect your opinions and advice. DFW market sounds different and complicated compared to my current job market in Midwest. That’s why I am just trying to get better understanding of the market and find some leads for good locum and/or W2 opportunities. As you have said before, those gigs are not advertised on gaswork and people usually find them by word of mouth.

It’s not that they are advertised or not. It’s takes some time to get used to an area and start sniffing around if you want to stick around the area.

Just fly into the area. Take a locums gig. See how u like the area. Start talking to people and take it from there.

I form my own alliances with other docs in the area. So we trade off a lot of gigs. Almost interchangeable. I know I can’t cover everything. And they can’t cover everything.
