Logistics of switching/transferring into a PGY-2 spot.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How difficult is it to do this? Any recommendations on a website to find openings?

For the record, it would be a psych to psych switch.
Very easy. You could check the psychiatry clearinghouse on the APA website ( http://archive.psych.org/career_corner/careers_psych/clearinghouse/CHsearch.cfm )

but I think that it represents a very small proportion of the programs with openings. There are so many people switching after PGY-1 year because they change their mind about specialty, etc. that you'd probably be better off just contacting programs your interested in and asking if they have an opening.

Regarding "how difficult is it to do this?", that question has been addressed in multiple posts in multiple threads on SDN. I would recommend doing a search of the SDN forums.

Thanks for the suggestions. The clearinghouse was pretty bleak (I didn't see any PGY-2 openings). Has anyone used residentswap.com or another paid service before?

Try contacting programs you're interested in. There are some programs that usually have PGY-2 openings every year. I believe that University of Maryland is one that perennially has them.

That seems like a fairly risky strategy at this point. I assume you mean after I've made my intentions to transfer clear to my PD?
